Upon browsing the net, i saw this article saying that Mark Zuckerberg announced that Facebook will be shut down in March. Zuckerberg says that he just wanted to get back his normal life because when Facebook started it ruins a lot and missing a lot from his old life back. According to the news he just wanted to need to put an end to all the madness. Is this for real? Check this link.

That's a very interesting story youngkia1, but it's not true, it's based on a rumour. I'm sure the rumour has generated huge publicity for the site that started it, so it has probably been very successful for them. Businesses like FaceBook that are valued at $50 Billion, don't shut down, just because the owner decides he wants his old life back.

Yeah, this is all a big rumor/hoax. They would not just close up right out of the blue like that.

This is just a hoax. I think it's just a dirty tactic for that site to get some traffic boost and short popularity.
I'm think Facebook will soon file charges on those guys, especially the author of that article and the editor of that news blog.

Nice to hear that, well that is also what I've been thinking of.. facebook makes billions of dollars, even though its free. Just because one person doesn't want to take care of it anymore, doesn't mean someone else won't. People will be in lines trying to take over facebook. It's nice to know that its just a hoax. :)

This news is only a hoax and the poster is being exaggerated, is all. It's kind of unfortunate that people concerned will just believe and take a bite, undoubtedly. The poster has been succeeded for even ripping off these kind of press releases, anyways. That's how the social mediums are dominating nowadays.

See related news article here = http://mashable.com/2011/01/09/facebook-shutdown/

I see the conversation has reached a conclusion. Perhaps, I would like to ask, what are your opinions about the future of Facebook or in general the Future of Social Media? You can find too many articles on this subject over the internet. But what matters is everyone's personal perspective. As far as I conceive, the huge amount of Spam taking place will be the major cause of Social Media disappearance in the near future!

    Good question Andy!

FaceBook will be around for some time to come. They have a huge global user base and phenomenal brand awareness, that should be enough to carry the business for a long time into the future. Something new will come along that will compete with FaceBook and eventually overtake it, however Facebook will still survive for the reasons I already stated. Obviously that's just my opinion and life is full of surprises, no one really knows what the future holds :)

I think I'll just look for a time machine and travel to the future. LOL :p
Joking aside, I think Facebook will still be there in the next five years, considering it got lots of users around the world and its number is increasing.
There are also times that the word "facebook" becomes a verb like "facebooking" which generally means "social networking."

There is a Famous song in India whose lyrics are as "The person gets as degree of fame as his bad name".. So these are sometimes nothing more than publicity stunt to gain huge coverage in media for a short interval of time for some peculiar hidden motives...

You can refer some stars from both Hollywood and Bollywood for such type of acts when they think that their popularity is decreasing.....;)
