I am in the process of starting up a patisserie and purchased some equipment from a local company. I paid a deposit when I looked at the equipment and the balance on delivery. I was given a rough recipet for my deposit and was told that I would revieve a proper reciept for the full amount in the post. One month later and at least half a dozen phone calls, no reciept has been provided. VAT was inculded in the price. does the seller legally have to provide the reciept? can anyone tell me where I stand, it is quite a chunk of money from my start up cash, that I can't show in my figures.

    (All advice gratefully recieved TIA)

I would take a trip down there and refuse to leave until the receipt is issued. How long does it take to print a receipt?

If you have paid the said amount then you should legally get the invoice for the same. Try visiting the supplier's office and ask for one.

It sounds like the business you purchased the equipment from may not want to report the sale for tax purposes. If you told them that you will be reporting the purchase in your accounts and tax returns, would that put them under pressure to provide a receipt?

    Have you got any invoice?

They finally emailed an incorrect invoice to me, showing a total £400 less than the actual amount I paid. To get this far has taken three more phone calls, two texts and an email.

Thanks for the update jinty. Did they tell you why the invoice is "showing a total £400 less than the actual amount" you paid?

I contacted him again to explain about the mistake, He said the persn who deals with it only works two days a week and that it would be sorted out. Still no correct email over a week later. :(

Tell them that you are filing a case agst them of fraud with local police station based on the initial receipt provided by them....

Act fast as if more time will pass by it will difficult to recall the events and important details....

Ask them when would be the best time to contact the person who deals with it and then phone at those times. If the person won't speak to you, you can look at other options at that time.
