    One of my friends is planning to launch an E-commerce based website for grocery and other daily needs. The target location is India. The website is probably launching in the next month. The main problem is with marketing. We are planning to hire a digital marketing agency for the same.

    Can anyone suggest what kind of marketing strategy we use to promote our business ????

    Before setting up any business, one must have a thorough study of the market that their business belongs to. Then one needs to identify their business competitors and analyze the competitor’s strategies. Now formulate your business plans have plan A and also plan B ready. You need to run promotions for your site through different platforms. Using social media and networking platform can help increase the reach of your business.

    If you are hiring a digital marketing agency, they will probably recommend either or both of these strategies. Since you are primarily in a single country, you may want to use a local SEO strategy, and use Adwords for occasional promotions, or specific categories of items. Make sure they know how to use both of these strategies properly, and are not trying to use "smoke and mirrors" to trick the search engines and hide what they are actually doing.

    Yes, as mentioned above: market research first, benchmarking then formulate your messages - manage distinctiveness and maintain customer centric strategy. It is easy to conduct a SWOT analysis them operationalise it.
    Then comes the marketing: with these information you can judge the competency of any Digital Agency - you will be able to chose wisely.

    I would suggest local SEO and dynamic remarketing. Thinking of the competition with other establish online stores, it is important to identify the niche market. Instead of target entire India region, narrow down the digital campaign on targeted demographic will be more effective.

    My only tip is to just make sure the agency you talk to is comfortable with ecommerce sites (like really work on them not just think it's 'the same as anything woo here we go new client party time) and strategy there and make sure that if they're just consulting and not developing (again your choice) that your development team is responding quickly to requests and able to make the changes recommended quickly so your campaign doesn't stall.

    Content will be a big factor - both for attracting new customers - I don't know the market in India, but shipping groceries is crowded where I am so I'd imagine you need a strong brand and message - and for making sure your site can perform well in search. So again you probably need to consider the agency you pick's experience with branding and messaging, not just their raw technical skills (particularly if you only plan to work with one agency).

    If you are a newbie then do some classified ads and banner promotions. In addition to that, gofer social media marketing, where you can run a small social media campaign. For that you need to host a small contest over social media with, related to offering and facilitate the winner of the contest with prizes from your official social media channel.

    For this you need to do both SEO and SMO of your website.Use effective off page seo techniques to get website ranking and social network sites like Facebook,Twitter,Google plus to promote your website.Share quality content,images,blogs related to your website on social media helps a lot to get website ranking and promotion.

    It is good to go with digital marketing strategy for your friend's e-commerce website. But as you are going to start a new business, better to go with the SEO strategy and social media marketing prior to digital marketing. In order to get customers attracted to your website, it is important for your website to have clear and personalized promotion. Let people know about your launch and make them aware of your services through social sharing. Quality content is important, so focus on delivering a clear message to the customers with quality content.

    Since SEO and SMO, by their very nature, are ongoing marketing methods, the OP is never going to "reach the point", if I understand you correctly. Although some say that rankings are no longer important due to changes in Google's algorithm, that is how your potential customers use the search engines to find you, and someone will always want to be at the top, so SEO doesn't stop. For SMO, if you don't stay active, your followers will stop following you, and you will no longer have a method to reach out to new followers or potential customers.

    If you starting any business means you well researched about the trends but hiring a digital marketing agency is the good idea, the advantages of it are : getting the team without any cost, technology and tools, diverse perspectives, no more guessing and complete professional way of making the things. Burt you need work with them, monitor the works are working best or not. Choose a best agency and if you want more exposure then go for SEO.

    Marketing a website can be a lot of work, so hiring a marketing agency can be a good idea, but I disagree with some of your points. The good ones are better technology and tools(and a familiarity with them that the average user wouldn't have), diverse perspectives, and a professional way of doing things. However, you would not be getting the team at no cost since you have to pay the agency. Also, the only way to eliminate guessing is to hire someone who knows what they are doing and keeps up with the latest changes and updates. Unfortunately, especially with SEO, that's not an easy thing to do.
    Finally, I have one question. The OP's name is PrashantBurke, so who's Burt?

    Its a typo, please read it as But, am giving here the advantages of hiring an agency. as we all know that SEO is deadly tough, every SEO master is the ever learner of the current SEO updates of the market. As you said, i can agree that nothing can be achieved with out trying especially with the SEO.

    The difficulty level of promoting an E-commerce website is increasing due the establishment of new E-commerce sites daily. Everyday a new start up has been emerged in the market with a new idea and start promoting its websites globally. But, if you are targeting a particular market i.e. Indian market and want huge customers within few months of your launch then you must hire a professional Digital marketing service provider company who can assist you to reach your targeted audience easily. It will be quite difficult for you to promote your website personally as you are not aware of the marketing strategies and the intense behavior of the market where you want to promote your business features effectively.

    That a really great to open the online grocery store. If you have website with app then you need to hire the digital agency or else hire atlist 4 expierence people for your online promotions.

    Depends on what you sell. Apart from traditional strategies (SEO, SMM, Facebook and Google ads) you can also use some platforms as lead generators. You can suggest your listings if there's something similar in your store. Wanelo and Polyvore are also great for fashion related stuff. You can also try to drive some traffic with Reddit, specialized forums and online communities, Facebook buy/sell groups.

    Before your site release you can use " coming soon , new arrival and other type of content use to start pre- marketing on social media or email marketing that help to attract new costumes on your site.

    after releasing your site you can do good SEO ans SMO to promote your site.
