Sometimes it’s easier to find exactly what you’re looking for when someone you know already found it. Get recommendations for the things that interest you, right when you want them, in your search results.

The next time you’re trying to remember that bed and breakfast your buddy was raving about, or find a great charity to support, a +1 could help you out. Just make sure you're signed in to your Google Account.

    Check out here: http://www.google.com/+1/button/
But before you can use it, you need to submit your site for Google's approval.

Thanks for that GekiDan, it looks like an interesting addition from Google. I may very well add one to BAF in the near future.

GekiDan, I've looked through the Google pages on this and don't see anything that tells me I need to apply for the button, would you please have a link to further info? From what I can see I can get the code from here on Google.

I've added the code to the footer of the BAF homepage, but can't see it displayed. Perhaps that's because I need to apply? However, when I do a search for terms related to BAF, I can see the button displayed next to the search engine result for this site.

Have you added it for every page of BAF, Fergal?
If yes, I can find this code on your <head> or <body>
    Code:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js"></script>
    As per instructions:
Maybe adding the first code right will solve the problem.

Thanks a lot GekiDan, you are exactly right, that's what the issue was. The code was inserted in the correct location but there was an error in the code. It's fixed now and the +1 button is now showing in the footer of our home page. I will try to find a better location for it.

Maybe where you have facebook connect, instead of having full button saying FB Connect, you can just have a facebook icon. That way you can add more social sites and the google +1 button next to it.

Thanks for the suggestions An Alien and GekiDan. We are currently looking at the navigation area around the FaceBook Connect button to see how we can improve it. We may be able to incorporate the +1 button into any changes we make.

    Googles new +1

Hay guys so Google has a new SEO tool called plus one, you can read more about it clicking on the below:
    http://tntmd.com/_blog/marketing-blog/post/Google_Plus_1_SEO_Benefits/

and you can download the code to add to your site using this link(there is also a video:
    http://www.google.com/webmasters/+1/button/index.html

Now I have added this feature to my site on Friday and iv gotten 4 hits already im not sure if this is a positive though I think Google is using this to filter through sites of relevance by promoting sites that follow there SEO code and sandboxing or demoting sites that the deem SEO unfriendly.

Anyway try it out and lets see what happens.

Yes Fergal, place +1 at the top right corner of the page as human eye tends to read from left to right.

I added it for a couple weeks but it didn't do much for me so I removed it as the button was clashing with my sites style.

That mod looks great Brett, I'd love to see something similar for forums running on vBulletin.

Thanks for the suggestion Bliss, we will finalise on a location soon.

Really? A MOD for it? I mean, its really simple to add the button on your site. Just a set of codes.

The mod places the code for the Google +1 button at the bottom of the first post in every thread on the forum. Do you know how to do that for vBulletin without a mod? If you do please tell me how so I can add it here on Business Advice Forum.
