I normally borrow design book from libraries to read up for inspiration and ideas.

    How about you?

As much as possible, I try to purchase some, especially during bargains and sales.
The best thing on owning a book is you can get back to it if you want. Just get it from your shelf and you are good to go.
And basically, you can easily follow instructions from the book directly.

So far, I have owned 2 design book: The Artist's Guide to GIMP Effects and a collection of computer fonts.
And these guys always come in handy.

0.0 ok. That is pretty good. In singapore, i do not know where to find design books and they might be expensive. So i just as well go to the library to borrow them. But the range of books are limited.

Have you tried to purchase online? Ebay has lots of them.
Even used ones are in good condition and prices are worth it.

    Hi,
Books are great as you can take time to read etc but assuming you mean web design then books can get dated quickly. If its general design, kitchens, houses, home furnishing then I'd agree, a library is the way to go.

    Regards

You are kinda right but isn't it much better to have one in handy rather than borrowing from the library everytime you need it?

You are from Singapore right? You can go to www.ebay.com.sg so you can find items or products that are sold locally to prevent you from importing.

I read the book "The Guide to Beautiful Web Design" or something like that at work, my boss has it. It is pretty good.

For inspiration, I just google Web Design inspiration and look through blogs and see sites. I had a site before but I can't remeber it now.

If I'm not mistaken, Sitepoint is regularly giving away free sample of designing books for those who are subscribed to their newsletters. And as far as I can remember, I got two of them on hand, one sample book with only a few chapters and another one which is the full version.

The sample chapters are available in digital format which is PDF and since it is a book that can be read in your computer, it's called an e-book. :D
