Now this is something revolutionary! Twitter has now completely launched for businesses. You can pay and promote your Tweets or your account or a Trend on Twitter.

How much does this excites you?

What I like post about the Twitter promoted tweets is that, you don't have to pay for the Re-Tweeted impressions. Where Re-Tweet is the most powerful Twitter function it multiplies your presence & click through rate.

Why would you say that's stupid, Nathan? No need to be rude just because you disagree. Many businesses already saw benefits in using Twitter to promote themselves before this was introduced.

I wasn't being rude, I said the whole idea of twitter doing this is stupid. It's stupid because now when someone does a proper search for a specific term, they'll see these promoted ads, and twitter always has load issues (especially when searching) so imagine now.. ha.

Remember that even Google, Yahoo & Bing displays these promoted ads. However, the ads are not displayed when you make a "Twitter Search".

Twitter promoted Tweets: The promoted tweets will be displayed right under your time line.

Twitter promoted trends: The promoted trends will be displayed under the right navigation of your profile page.

This is how your Campaign Dashboard will be displayed:

lol looks like twitter has finally shown its true colors. haha. maybe this was what twitter founders intended twitter to be. a moolah generator instead of purely social network.

It takes a huge amount of money to manage and maintain Twitter. The hosting alone would be a huge monthly expense. It's not surprising that they have to start looking for ways to generate revenue from the service.

They also have explanation to users who are new to twitter, which are good.
They even taught abit on how to get many followers and build your reputation.

You are right - I'm not being naive, I'm just pointing out that for years its almost built its reputation on being purely social and I've heard people say that that's why they prefer it to facebook and others, but its an expected eventuality like all online propertied - with the exception of Wikipedia (I think - unless I'm wrong and that's being monetized as well).

Good point DaveB, the inclusion of ads on a previously ads free site is a huge move and can have a significant impact on the site's users. Many members of online communities resent the inclusion of ads and it can often drive them away. It will be interesting to see what the impact on Twitter will be.

Wow. Another step towards Twitter commercialism ? It's too commercialized for my liking these days anyways.
