What kind of businesses should use Pinterest to advertise their business?
1. Listing of properties and land for the real estate property market
2. Could be a medium for web designers to showcase their portfolios via this image sharing social network
3. Could be a medium for you to share your products and creative portfolios.
4. In terms of photography, it can be a good way to showcase you talent.
There is a lot of things that you can do with the Pinterest. You cannot just limit yourself with what I have listed.
Is Pinterest similar to tumblr?
No - they don't really seem to be the same. Tumblr seems to be formatted more like a "blog" supporting various types of "links"
although a link is just one of the things you can add to your Tumblr "page".
Pinterest on the other hands is more like a bunch of "bulletin" boards - topics you curate - that you pin items to - more picture oriented than Tumblr.

Any business can effectively use Pinterest. You just have to be a little creative in how you use it.
