What kind of businesses should use Pinterest to advertise their business?
1. Listing of properties and land for the real estate property market
2. Could be a medium for web designers to showcase their portfolios via this image sharing social network
3. Could be a medium for you to share your products and creative portfolios.
4. In terms of photography, it can be a good way to showcase you talent.
There is a lot of things that you can do with the Pinterest. You cannot just limit yourself with what I have listed.
Is Pinterest similar to tumblr?
No - they don't really seem to be the same. Tumblr seems to be formatted more like a "blog" supporting various types of "links"
although a link is just one of the things you can add to your Tumblr "page".
Pinterest on the other hands is more like a bunch of "bulletin" boards - topics you curate - that you pin items to - more picture oriented than Tumblr.
Many thanks to you for sharing a very helpful info on Pinterest in this thread.
So far, it seems as though e-commerce and B2C businesses mainly thrive on Pinterest. Given Pinterest’s image sharing functionality, it is easier to display goods and commodities, rather than a software or service. Keep in mind that many of the Pins on Pinterest have visual appeal, in categories such as Arts and Crafts, Photography and Home Décor. Though not impossible, if your business mainly offers services and intangible goods, it may have a difficult time standing out on Pinterest.
Benefits of pinterest
With the sheer amount of users browsing Pinterest, SEO potential is extremely high for small businesses, just waiting to be utilized. There are a number of ways in which businesses can take advantage of the relationship between SEO and Pinterest, whether through using hashtags for Pin descriptions or using relevant keywords. In addition, each pin on Pinterest leads contains a do-follow link back to the source. When a user clicks on a Pin, they are led back to the originating website, which is able to divert some traffic back to them.
Though Pinterest is a relatively new phenomenon, small businesses are constantly devising new ways to utilize the social pinboard. From wineries to clothing stores, restaurants and supply companies, businesses are using Pinterest as a marketing tool to display their goods and personality. There are a number of different ways Pinterest can generate interest, whether by creating buzz for events or asking for their input. One warning for small businesses is to make sure that your pinning stays away from heavy promotion and shameless advertising. Instead of simply pinning all products available, think of creative ways to use boards and Pins to draw in followers and prospective customers.
One of the main benefits of Pinterest is the potential for exponential traffic growth. With each Pin linking back to your website, visitors are sent straight to your business. For example, e-commerce websites and other online retail stores who are placing Pins of their products on Boards are able to experience large growth and exposure, as interested visitors are lead to the product page. With the right pins, small businesses can take advantage of the massive traffic opportunity.
