It is essential to understand the needs and to identify how to satisfy these needs more fully, more exactly, or more profitably than competitors. Business strategy is therefore about beating competitors in meeting customer needs; beating competitors for other purposes may be fun but it is a distraction.
What will going to be your business and the competition.
What problem are you solving? What solutions are you providing? Both questions are key when starting a business.

Start with a business and marketing plan: business vision, define your target market (demgraphics, lifestyle etc.), define your secondary market, features and benefits of your product / service, make a competitors analysis, design your SWOT analysis, what's your USP etc etc etc
There are many considerations in starting up your own business, and many areas that people will not realize when they start out.
1. Don’t Quit with you Job yet - It is essential that you keep some kind of income flow in order to succeed and so you should not give up a normal job until you are totally positive about your new business’ potential.
2. Set Realistic Targets - You should have an idea of how much money you would like to make. It is best to make these targets on several levels, in terms of time. Begin thinking - is the hourly rate you are making worth the amount of work you are putting in?
3. Taxes - It is best to constantly set aside a portion of the month’s business revenue for tax purposes
a very vague one you posted. you should probably keep in mind everything! that is a correct business and budget plan, what is your target audience, how will the business make money, what are you going to do if you run out of cash, will you reach out to investors & angels etc etc.. too many to list!
It always depends on what business you are trying to work on. But some basics you need to search for and must study is your customer and your competitor.
You need only knowledge of that business that you want to established.

It is depend on the nature of business and your knowledge. Think about the business ideas, go to your local market and figure out the peoples need and find out what is missing there, also visit some online store like Amazon. Find your business resource and set your budget plan before starting business.
Don't try to do it all by yourself. Do it in partnership, Check the partners capability and share it accordingly. Do market research, check out whom you are going to sell & how you find them. You should be aware of product & market plan.

I can give you my opinion as far as what Mental Mindset needs to be established to create a successful business.
1. Have passion for what your business is. If you are going to start a business just to make money that is probably a sure way to fail in the end.
2. Never be satisfied with what you know about the business. Always seek more knowledge. As they say "Knowledge is Power"
3 Believe in what your are selling and provide what the customer needs. Remember "Customer is King." If you have no customers you have no business.
4. Work everyday as if is your last day! If you give 110% everyday just imagine what you will achieve after the first year.
5. Dont worry about what happened yesterday or tommorow. Keep your nose to the grindstone day by day and believe it will come!
