Word "Business" itself sounds Exciting, Interesting and Exhilarating. A mere thought of it gives you sense of independence, feel of being your own boss, and an opportunity to touch the lives of several people. Still we see few businesses, even less entrepreneurs choosing this side of road. This often gives rise to the question -what is the reason that Business is not every man's cup of tea.

The basic difference in Business and Job-
Business is a Self Financed or Externally financed and Sustainable model of trading or manufacturing, offering goods and services to the consumers. Several people are employed in firms, enterprises or organizations (a mean to carry out business) to achieve the desired goals and targets. Jobs are thus only means for business to meet the desired goals. In essence "Jobs are there in the market, go and get it. Business has to be created and build."

Taking decision to Set up business is not an easy task and Setting up business is a task even tougher. So taking a decision and setting a business are two sides of the coin.

Explore both sides of the coin and decide whether you have the Nerve!

If you are on the verge of taking this tough decision, following points must be given a thought-

    • If you are not employable, you are the best material for business, because then you have no other choice left.
    • You like being comfortable in your own skin and world, then go for business as it will give you plenty of opportunities to frame your own day and environment.
    • Not an 8:00 Am to 6:00 Pm person? You are the right person for business as you will enjoy your work and when you will enjoy your work; time will be a sheer bothering factor.
    • Have hobbies? So either makes your hobbies your business or business will give you enough time for your hobbies.
    • You always look for new things that defy orthodoxies and come up with innovative ways of performing a task; business is the best thing for you.

Setting up Business requires a tough wrestle up in mind regarding-

Vision- A successful business requires vision beyond normal eyesight i.e. the ability to see what does not preexist and what can be created. eg- A civil engineer can easily visualize the building in his mind even while the foundation is being laid. So Vision should be like a civil engineer.

Creativity and Innovation- Often it happens that new business face financial problems in the beginning, so Creativity aided with Innovation is the art that comes to rescue at this crucial moment. eg- A flower entrepreneur finds it difficult to sell his flowers in the initial stage. He started to invite people to visit his nursery and witness varieties of blooming flowers for a very small fee. He gave each his visitor one unique flower for each day of the week. This resulted not only in extra income along with promotion but also more sales. So when the times are tough, creativity can help you to find solution.

Flexibility-There can be no fixed time of working hours for new or old businesses alike. In the beginning stage you might have to work more than the normal schedules while at later stages of business you can work according to the requirement and your will. eg- Jack has worked day and night to build database for his online dating site in the beginning .When his website started getting response he had to just update the database using an automated system which takes only his 2-3 hours of time daily.

Hard Work and Discipline- There is no substitute for these two as hard work and disciplines are two principal traits that can helps you build the foundation for a successful business. Hard work shows your passion while discipline determines your level of motivation for the business.

A Business Plan- This is most important and practical feature that helps you build a roadmap to start your business. It enlists the Marketing and Sales Strategies, Source of Finance and Capital, Organization Structure and how you will accomplish your vision. It requires an extensive ability to research in the beginning. eg- Use Market reports, Business Advice Forums, Consult Successful Business Men, Contact your local government office and chartered accountants to know the legal issues involved etc.

One has to keep in mind that taking decision of business and setting up business are though two different things but are mutually exclusive to each other i.e one cannot exist without other. Thus think about the two sides from all angles. Then go ahead if you think you can move ahead of the challenges and obstacles that come along your way.
