OK - so is there any research or information on what an 'average' bounce rate is? [Bounce rate shows a percentage of entrances on any given page that resulted in an exit from the page without entering any other page on the site.]

FYI, my top seller page has a bounce rate of 58% (average), which is the lowest bounce rate on my site apart from my home page which has a bounce rate of 37%.

I'm just curoius to know if there is a bench mark average. And the only research I have found relates to email bounce rates, not web pages.

There are such standard. Freaky speaking 40-60% bounce rate is consider as average for me. Below 40% is good
By the way, it still highly depend in the type of the site, forum normally have lowest bounce rate, many forum have low bounce rate like 20-30%, and normally those one page site are having 100% bounce rate. However, you will found that forum conversion rate is the lowest among all type of site

I can't really say which is the average since it varies from sites to sites and niche to niche. My current bounce rate in the last two months is at least 53% which is not that bad I can say.

I actually just wrote an article on this, but I will just highlite one point on this...and quote what I learned...

According to Google, “Bounce rate is the percentage of single-page visits or visits in which the person left your site from the entrance (landing) page. Use this metric to measure visit quality – a high bounce rate generally indicates that site entrance pages aren’t relevant to your visitors.”

If you start to see numbers over 35% then you will want to figure out why, if it is over 50% you might want to worry.

Google Analytics specialist Avinash Kaushik has stated: “My own personal observation is that it is really hard to get a bounce rate under 20%, anything over 35% is cause for concern, 50% (above) is worrying. I stress that this is my personal analysis.”

not sure how a bounce rate average is calculated. :D
I get high conversion for my tech forum though so it probably depend to the forum type and its topics.

Maybe the definition of "high conversion rate" is different
By the way, what is your conversion rate?

Alexa only calculates based on the data their toolbar gets. Not all people use Alexa toolbar right?

my bounce rate is 10.26% but this is to my arcade site. my forums has 30%

so i have to add all my sites bounce rate to get the average? that won't be accurate right?

that's a good result. By the way, im actually asking your conversion rate. Arcade and Forum site having less than 30% is normal, but no doubt that 10% is good result. However, i doubt that the conversion rate is lower than 10%

arcade clicks is just about $.15 or less. tech forum however is about $1 or less. the number of clicks always matter.

The arcade niche is low pay niche, 0.15 cpc is better than average. Tech niche have good cpc, $1-2 cpc is good
But forum normally have low ctr compare to other type of site

    Hi,

Having accessed quite a few client accounts over the years, I would say that there is no such thing as an "average" bounce rate. Certainly over 40% would compare well with most, although I've seen clients achieve strong results (financially) despite bounce rates of 60%+

The lesser the bounce rate, the better. This means people are really staying in your site.
