    Google began rolling out their Panda 4.0 update designed to punch low quality content. That’s generated both 'winners' who have moved up in rankings as 'losers' have dropped down and eBay might be one of the big losers.

    Do you know how they are defining things as "low content"?

    Ebay's ranking down because of thin content and doorway pages. The sidebar is full of anchor text rich links and content of the product is really short. In Footer anchor text rich keyword pointing to the internal pages.

    You both left out something. Chandanthaver mentioned low quality content, although "low content" could also be a problem. There has to be enough content for the search engines to read so they can determine what a webpage is about. But, as chandanthaver mentioned, that content has to be quality content, written to engage the visitor, not just for the search engines. Don't forget, the reason why you want to be highly ranked is to gain more visitors. For a business, you want people who are interested in buying your product or service. If the only content you have is designed to attract the attention of the search engines, but of little interest to the visitors, they won't return, and tey may tell others about their experience as well, so you will lose many other potential visitors. Quality content that engages the visitor is what the search engines are looking for.

    In regards to these, below are thoughts about what exactly it is:

    --Panda 4.0 key points to ponder--

    1. It is said "to have a direct impact on helping small businesses do better"
    - Could be through Branding
    - Could be through Local searches / Geo-targeting which includes:
    * Google Maps / local listings
    * Citations

    2. Authority over possible duplicate contents around the web.
    3. Intent of keywords and towards their landing pages.

    We have seen some of our sites improved their rankings a day after the update was officially announced. I am not saying that our site were the ones that followed their guidelines, all I'm just saying is that we could have several changes done on our site that Panda 4.0 agree upon and so helped us increase.

    Regards,
    Mark
