What social sites would be much preferred to increase and generate more traffic coming to a site?
A lot depends on the type of site you want to promote RestOwner. Can you please give us a little more info on that? The larger social sites include Twitter, FaceBook, LinkedIn and MySpace.
You can also advertise for free in our Free Advertising Forums and in your signature here on Business Advice Forum.
There is so many social networking site available
and many more
This is a suck it and see exercise, what works for one person may not work for the rest, and Social Networking is much like MLM, you have to put in a lot of time to get a little out, but then it all starts cascading in.
I used facebook for far too long, sank money in ads etc, but found it pants, my business involves decision makers, not bored Secretaries or people lazing around at home, and I think this is where the main facebook pull is, if you are selling phones, or quick things that people need all the time, I think it would work.
I have eCademy, Linkedin etc accounts, but Twitter is the one for me, I wanted to go where the decision makers were, and with 75,000,000 accounts and growing, this was it, far more business people use Twitter, on their phones, in the office, at home, so I went full on at Twitter, and I cannot tell you how much work I have had from it, I have done Twitter backgrounds for Virgin PR, Dragons Dens star Duncan Bannatyne, doing Bravo TV's at the minute (Via Virgin PR again), but the real business comes from all the personal, self employed and SME ones I am doing, people like what I do, they come back for more, brochures, corporate PDF's, graphic design, logo's, web design and so much more.
But because it worked for me (and still works for me) does not mean it will work for you.
If you are talking about social networking, then it has to be twitter and face book. these two are by far most commonly used sites for networking. I just came across an article giving in the percentage of usage of social media by fortune top 1oo companies. Check it out, it will give you a better understanding:
Kip, don't forget social media 3.0 coming soon for business owners, I'll leave you to Plugged.it
Haha, very true Sean! I am setting up something called Plugged.it but I broke it already! So need to do a rethink for the beta version!
I would strongly refer Facebook, Twitter and My Space. As per survey these 3 social networking sites are in the peak of its popularity in terms of advertising or to generate traffic to your site. They also have a high PR of 9 to 10.
I still think that http://www.plugged.it will become a serious player, they have everything, blogs, albums, chat, updates etc!
Still in BETA, very much in BETA!
I would definitely pick Facebook, however getting a member/fan count on your Facebook page will be the hardest bit. You get about 10% of the total number of fans coming to your site, ie. 5000 fans = 500 visitors, and most of the time, they are unique.
I like facebook and twitter. They're easy to use an innovatively designed.
Another one I've tried is myspace. It's not as good as the two listed above but it is ok.
I join the current and say you should go for facebook
i'd go for digg and stumbleupon. are they socialnetworking sites? but what ever, they're pretty good.
I personally prefer Facebook myself these days.
Normally, I am only preffer to facebook & twitter..
For me, use Facebook. I joined newer fan pages related to my posts each day to get more visibility and visitors. Ever since I joined Facebook, my visitors increased by more or less 10-15%.
i think facebook, twitter, linkedin are the major social networking sites form where you can drive traffic to the website.
Hey if you are talking about social book marking sites than they are:
Why has no-one mentioned www.plugged.it? lol! C'mon guys!
I like the look of it! And I'll give you a chance to plug it even more by convincing me why it's going to be better than what's already out there.
I signed up in support of your project Kip and will do my best to pop by once in a while.
In answer to the OP, I have accounts at Facebook, Twitter et al but don't use them as much as I could. I think if you can't commit to making regular posts, it's not the best use of your time. Like anything else, you get out of it what you put in, as others have demonstrated in this thread already.
I prefer facebook, twitte and linkedin. Facebook is my favorite site for SMO.
