Best live chat software are skype because we can easily use this software in tab, Pc and also in mobile device. If you want voice calling then its a best software for devices.

In my side, i think it's basically depending on the Live Chat software. So far all existing chat tools are good, but the point here is which one will you use.

As per my opinion Skype is best software for live chat.I always prefer Skype for personnel or business use.

I have been using yahoo messenger and it work fine with me, like it having both the web version that you could access within the email account, and the downloaded version.

I would recommend you to use zopim for chat. Extremely professional piece of software(great in design and great features) and the best part, it's free for some limited features, which I think would be suffice for you if you are a small business else you always would have the option to upgrade.
I am very impressed with Chat4Support.com It is very easy to use, free for trial. It lets me to live chat with website visitors, monitor site traffic, and analyze visitors' web activities, including their search engine and keyword usage. It will make your chat more effective with multiple features.
Liveperson seems to be very popular, and it seems to function very well when I've used it in the past (as a client). If you are running WHMCS their live chat addon is very good but requires a windows computer unfortunately (can't run on server).
Hmm, I'm surprised no mention of Olark (http://www.olark.com). I've been a customer for about a year now and it's a pretty slick, minimal solution that I'll definitely continue using
