Unknown to many, Alexa allows users to download the Alexa Top 1 Million sites in CSV/Excel file format.
Although Alexa is not that accurate, we can still have an idea on how popular our sites are (well, to those with Alexa toolbar installed).

You can download it here: http://s3.amazonaws.com/alexa-static/top-1m.csv.zip

Currently BAF is 33864. My blog is on 130210. :D

Thanks for sharing that with us GekiDan. The file size is almost 10MB, so it is quite a big download.

Did you find useful info from that file GekiDan, that is not available direct from the Alexa site?

Why does the list show every site lower than it is? It shows my site in the 70,000s and it shows BAF in the 30,000s.

The CSV file just consists of lists of sites. So far, I find this interesting due to the fact that I see that, even though it's not that accurate, I can see the ranking of my site is improving.

Regarding the file size, well, if you have a fast internet service, you can get the file for less than 1-5 minutes. :D

This file would have to constantly updated as Alexa changes daily. I downloaded it, though found little to no use of it. Although it was interesting to see the sites around larger, known sites.

I've used Alexa's site to get a sense for competitor website stats... has anyone here been able to take Alexa rank to estimate actual traffic volume remotely accurately?

John Million I wouldn't reply on Alexa to get accurate traffic volumes for a site. Instead I use it as a guide to give an indication of how a site is doing in comparison to others. For my own sites I use AwStats and Google Analytics for traffic figures.

Fergal is right. Besides, Alexa only uses data that are gathered from users who have Alexa Toolbar installed.
All visits from browsers without Alexa Toolbar si not counted and neglected.

Why alexa rank is not considered as correct one

Alexa ranks change all the time. You need to visit the Alexa.com site to get the most up to date rank for any site. the ranks shown on the Alexa banners on various sites, e.g. the one in the footer here on Business Advice Forum may show an Alexa rank that's a few days old.

Or you need to install Alexa Toolbar. Most of the time I checked mine, they are the same. :)

Thanks for the reminder GekiDan, I've just installed it, last time I'd checked it was not available for Google Chrome, glad they've rectified that now.
