On this website that has 50 websites linking to it, let’s say there is this page you have on that website. There are about 50 websites linking to the index page where I could prefer the people to go. A page rank of 3 is present with both of them now. Would the index.html page in page rank get any benefits if in your .htacess you did a permanent redirect so that the key page is redirected to your index.html page? Would the 50 pages linking to the website get lost in the shuffle or would the index.html page have around 100 pages linking to it now?

301 Redirect will work best and your backlinks as well as pagerank would be fine.

Just place the following code in .htaccess file:

Please replace www.newdomain.com in the above code with your actual domain name.
