If you have a new website and would like it to rank high in Google, then these are the steps that you need to do:

    1. Use SEO-friendly website design. Don't use free website design because they often have hidden coding that will be detrimental for your ranking. For example: hidden links to completely unrelated low quality websites.

    2. Focus on adding more content to your website in the first 3 months. Most people focus directly on the traffic, but this can damage your website ranking in the long run. Don't build backlinks unless you have lots of content to offer in your website.

    3. Don't add any affiliate links before your website gets indexed in Google. Google don't like affiliate links, especially on a brand new website. Of course, you can add your affiliate links later, but only after your website gets indexed. Give at least 3 months for your website to gain natural traffic before you add any affiliate links.

    4. Build quality backlinks from relevant websites. Don't use link blasting software if you still have a new website. Your links must come from relevant websites because relevancy is a very important factor that will determine your rank. Preferably you should put your backlinks on high PR websites.

    5. Be active in relevant forums in your niche. Put your website link in your signature. Post often and build your reputation in those forums. In this way, your website will look more reputable as well.

    6. Be a guest author on relevant websites. Publish good quality articles that will add your website reputation in those websites. Build yourself as an expert.

    7. Be active in social networking and social bookmarking websites. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+, Pinterest, Digg, StumbleUpon, etc. Show your website to the world.

    8. Let your website age gracefully. The older your website, the easier it will rank. Keep it grow for years to come. Keep nurturing it. Don't abandon it.

I would like to correct number 8. Let me just remind you that the age of the website has nothing to do with its ranking in Google.

Let's take this into account that if you did not do anything to your website for about 10 years (for example) that site is as valuable as a 1 day old site. As you say, keep nurturing your website by driving traffic, quality links, and leads.

Sometimes it's better not to second guess yourself. True, you're right that age by itself will not help your ranking, but combine it with #5. #6 and #7, and you are now seen as an authority in your business, which means more people will interact with you, and may even link to your website, or link to your articles, which then link to your website, giving you more link "juice". Even if you do nothing, if people still visit, and the information on your website is still relevant, you can still maintain a high ranking.

If I could add some general tips:

    - Stay updated. Always be on the lookout for what is happening in the industry. If you always rely on the same strategy for 10 years, you are doing it wrong.
    - Regarding content: creativity is important. Do not limit content to just text posts. Think of good ways to stand out from the whole competition of authors giving out exactly the same content (e.g. creating a viral infographic, video, etc).

Hope those little tips would also add to the already awesome advice you juts gave.

Very nice thread is going on,All 8 points mentioned above are good and informative. If you do our work with relevancy and quality then we definitely get the good ranking in Google's search results. After the Google's Penguin update may be Google’s Ranking Ideology changed,Google wants people to forget about link-building.

My client website is very new. And I have instructed to post 10 forums per day to build back link for the site. Is it correct strategy to get rank in Google page?

Be careful, this article is a year old, SEO changes constantly. Most of the suggestions in this one are still good, but always be careful when reading on SEO that it is VERY current information.

Actually, this is a perfect example of what not to do. Scheduling activities like this, or performing any activity with the sole purpose of building links, will only give yor client a large quanitity of obvious spam links, and it will eventually bite them in the behind. If they have started doing this, tell them to stop immediately! I do have one question - if you were not sure if this was the correct strategy, why would you tell your client to use it? Telling your client to use a strategy that will harm their rankings, and then having to tell them to stop doing it because you found out you were wrong, could bite you in the behind as well.

All the points are very informative and works for bringing the website on first page..Just I want to say that you have to keep calm.Never do a lot of work in one day but work at regular basis. Wait for the website to come at 1st page...

I beg to differ on number 3, you can use affiliate on your website the moment you launch it, what I think matter most if quality content and relevant backlink, once the two is in place, all you have to do is sit back and allow the site to grow, social media is also important, it makes crawling very easy for search engine.

yes i agree with you that it does't matter that if website is old it will get good rank it all depends on quality backlinks, traffic, unique content and too many factors to get good rank.

Useful summary and the comments draw my attention to other useful practices, too. Additionally the main reasons for SEO are ROI based: we want to run our business better. So if you make natural steps in this "How can I improve my business" direction your traffic will increase and your site will be more and popular - in the internet word it will be linked frequently. This can make you Top10 in SERPs.

Aged domains do rank better in SERP.
    Try it yourself:
Make one website with 5 pages (or blog posts) on the specific topic, create a sitemap and submit it to Google, Bing and Yahoo.
Don`t do anything more, just leave it for one year.
After one year, make other website on the similar topic, focus on the same keywords and do exactly the same thing, except for waiting one more year.
Wait for three month´s and then compare how those two websites ranking in search engines for the same keywords.

Make sure that websites your are posting to have do-follow links which will give you the "link juice" otherwise posting to no follow pages can be seen as a form of self promotion but it will not impact your PR Google rank
