Forum Lair has only been open since Sunday 27th June, so we aren't very active as of yet. We have been updating the forum with new MODs, add-ons and general coding to make it more user friendly.

We are currently running a $300 posting competition, and is active until 9am on the 30th of July 2010. The prizes are:
1st = $200
2nd = $75
3rd = $25

We also have a donation page and 50% of all donations received go towards a chosen charity.

All feedback is appreciated.

How will you decide on the contest winners John1, will it be based solely on post count or will quality of posts also be considered?

Post count and quality of posts are both considered. Obviously people reply with such things as 'Yeah' and 'Bump' will not be considered.

We have specific rules for the competition and I record of all the people that have registerd.

First of all I would like to say that all members are welcome to join Forum Lair. We have been online for just over a month now and though we might seem small, we are growing at a steady pace. Our main aim is to provide a fun and enjoyable place for you to promote your forum board and also to advertise your website/blog.

We have over 91 members and over 4,000 posts.

Some of the services we include for free are:

• Forum Promotion
• Ability to Advertise your Website/Blog
• Button Ads
• Signature Links

Currently, there is 2 new services being created which are the Post Boxes and Critque services. The Post Boxes services is were you can get some new members, threads and posts to your forum for a low forum cash exchange (forum cash is our boards currency called FL$). The Critique service is were we will review your forum for a set amount of FL$ and give you marks out of 100 based on your layout, forum design, staff moderation etc.

We also have an arcade for our members to relax in, and we are currently adding new games everyday (maximum 5 per day). If you don't want to relax in our arcade, there are plenty off-topic forums for you to have discussions in such as:

• Automotive Forum
• Gaming Forum
• Sports Forum
• Graphics Forum
• Coding & Developement Forum
• Admin/Webmaster Forum
• Forum Games Section

Our forum games section is a great place to enjoy yourself. There are plenty of forum based games in here such as Word Association, Count to 1,000, This or That and I win because... You are free however to create a new game, but posts in this forum will not count towards your post count.

We also have an interview section in which we have interviewed the owner of FuturamaFF Cloverfield.

I think over 4000 posts and 91 members in a month is a pretty respectable number, John. How's the competition working out, has it all went as expected so far? Anything you would do differently in hindsight that we can learn from?

Thank you Fergal for both your comments and taking the time to register.

That is correct, we have taken down the Twitter service for now as not many users were using it. We are however re-adding it in the future once we have a few more active members.

Could you edit my post to take that out please?

Critique service: A way to have your forum reviewed your special team of critique staff. We grade you out of 100 points and they are based on:

• Appearance: /20
• Layout: /20
• Statistics: /20
• Staff Activity/Moderation: /20
• Spelling/Grammar and Professionalism: /20

Post Box service: We offer three post boxes for your forum in which you will gain new members, extra posts and topics. Our three boxes are:

• Bronze Package : 6 Posts | 4 Topics | 40 FL$
  - Your forum must be 5 days old with no less than 100 posts.
• -
• Silver Package : 10 Posts | 5 Topics | 90 FL$
  -Your forum must be 1 month old with no less than 700 posts.
• -
• Gold Package : 14 Posts | 6 Topics | 140 FL$
  - Your forum must be 2 months old and have no less than 3000 posts.

How does your critique scoring work, John? Do the staff all have a certain number of points they can allocate in each section or do you have one particular member that covers one section of it, such as Appearance? Just curious. It's a good idea.

One of our critique team members does it themselves, so they rate each out of 20. No other member will mark your request apart from the staff member doing it.

We have added a lot of new features and updates to our board.

Firstly, we have a new theme which is much more professional and easier to use. I had to add all the template edits to the new one from the old theme and some of plugins didn't work for 1.6 so I had to manually upgrade them. I have also decided to have the post info in topics aligned to the left which will shorten the scroll time through topics and it now looks much better (in my opinion).

Secondly, I have decided to shut down our Post Box and Featured Forums service as of now. While these services were great to provide I decided that Forum Lair needed to take a much more professional take in the online world. With that said I will be adding some brand new services in the near future, and I will be making sure there are topics for our members to keep busy in.

John, the forum's opening a little slowly for me. Although my ISP has been acting up a bit recently, so perhaps it's that?

The forum is opening quite fast on mine.
Maybe it's just your ISP and internet connection,
