The process of off-page optimization has changed a lot these days. There are many ways to build links and make those links work for your website. Directory submission is not that very useful today - though some still make use of it (depends on what purposes it's being used at).

Social bookmarking is different from social sharing at all - and this tends to evolve into another way of building relevant and good links for your website.

Just a tip also. To avoid nofollow links there is a plugin for firefox called "NoDoFollow" which I have used for years. I actually am not sure it is still being updated but it definitely helps tell which is which so I waste less time.

Agree, just feel that link building is getting dead. I have switch my focus to content, content is still the king. Simply implement link building may harm to a site.

Well, it is not yet totally dead - there just need to have a like a paradigm shift - a revolutionary change of views on how a website naturally and unnaturally attract and build links. We cannot say that it is dead - even in content it can be present in a different form.

Yeah, you are right. These are available to do the off page optimization. But I also think when people are doing the submission process, they probably need a SEO software to do the assistance.

I think the on page optimization is more important, because you should be careful when you do it, if you don't, you may get punished by Google. As long as you can provide something readers are interested in, you will get a lot of traffic and great pang rank.

Yes, I agree with you. Google will punish those sites with too much off-page SEO.
So for a start-up website, if you are using a automatic SEO software, you must be very careful and schedule the process naturally.Make sure the search engine will not think this job get done by a robot.

Yeah, you are right. But I think people should find a balance between off page optimization and on page optimization.
When people work on the off page, they may take risks. But the risk will take accompany with the benefits. It depends on your devotes and the risks you would like to take.

Exactly, that is why we have SEO guys who can strike that balance between on page and a off page optimization. We have many websites that are huge but have been maintaining the importance of the website.
