Thanks Sigma, we are working hard to keep the spammers out. That particular mod has been very successful for us and has done a lot to reduce the amount of spammy links being promoted on the forum. Unfortunately there are times when it has false positives and blocks legitimate users. When this happens they need to get in touch with us so that we can approve their accounts.

Do you check usernames against Stopforumspam.com? If so then that can cause issues with false positives. Checking emails and IP's will give the best results and can still result in some false positives although nowhere near as many if you check usernames aswell.

I was just surfing for business advice forums to promote our business through banner ads. But personally I loved BAF and i have been sticking with it. I'm proud to be here because here I can see most of the members are real Entrepreneurs.

And to the point that BAF is really growing is something we should all celebrate and be thankful for. I found BAF before just for the purpose of being on a related and good forum but now it's more than just about it. Personally, I already enjoyed being a member of BAF and loved to stay and learn more.

Perhaps, we should all really contribute to BAF in keeping it a spam-free, information-loaded, stuffed-with-lots-of-business-ideas forum and really helpful business forum for every entrepreneur.

That's a lot of spammers. I remember when there were threads upon threads on a daily basis on the forum, now it's rare to see any spam at all(at least for me). That MOD must be working really well.

Are there any more recent stats on this? I suspect it only get worse not better. Being involved with some affiliate marketing (not an expert by any means) some people out there have not regard for forum members and the integrity of forums. The will spam willy-nilly. Not being a techie I am fascinated that you keep them out so well. On the other hand the ones with integrity emphasizes the need to deliver quality, to contribute and to add value. Anyway, any more recent stats? Just curious.

A visit to your Who's Online will show a not-so-friendly bot that visits your site on a regular basis, and in great volume. (notice how many connections simultaneously from the baidu spider alone)
This is an undesireable and known spider/bot.

A deny rule in your .htaccess file blocking certain user agents (the baidu spider/scraper for example) will not only prevent your site content from being scraped and re-used under another domain name in china, but will also reduce server load, increase page load speeds, and free up available resources.

To do so, ad this to your .htaccess file.

RewriteRule ^.*$ - [F]

Thanks for the suggestion Brakkish. I'd love to avail of the advantages you outline, however I have some concern that we might lose valuable traffic from the Baidu search engine. Do you think that's a possible disadvantage?
