Exactly, even the updated reCaptcha has been proven to be beaten by bots. Human Q & A is much more effective than any image. It would be better to ask a question which can't be Googled in any way, as many bots can actually use Google to answer questions.

A question such as, What does BAF stand for. Or something like that.

Yes, I notice that there are quite a few. That is not good for a potential new member.

How about Captcha + Human Q & A? Double protection

From what I notice, usually spammer is new user below 20 post, we can take some action against this group. E.g. their post and thread is not auto visible to public. When those spammer cant see instant result, or they require spent more time to spam BAF, probably they will give up and move to others forum.

I notice these spammers since october 2011, there has been lots of spams from users with below 20 posts. I'm beginning to think vB can't simply avoid these spammers

True that. I myself have deleted like 30+ spam threads on a single day.
I'm kinda felt sorry for not being that active last December.

Triangle, triangle, triangle. It's getting a little difficult to find the real topics with all the spam.

There actually is a human Q&A part of registration already in place, as well as re-Captcha (which I know is not great anymore). The Q&A that we have should be good enough to stop the bots, but I'm wondering if the Facebook Connect feature is being utilized by spammers as a way around registration security? I haven't thought to investigate that, but I will ASAP. I've been away from BAF for quite a while, and didn't realize how bad the spam has gotten. I'll do what I can to stop it or at least slow it down.

As far as I could see, the Facebook Connect feature is one of the ways that one could work around security measures of sites. What if we de-activate it for a couple of days or weeks and see if the amount of spam is lessened.

You're right, GekiDan, I've found out that FB Connect does indeed circumvent our anti-spam measures. I"ll be consulting with Fergal about your suggestion as well as one of my own. The spam has really gotten bad!
