I would defently say education. Please in the real world you can just go up to a company and say Can i have a job... They would have to give you a interview and they would want to see what qualifications you have and what you dont have. If you dont have any qualifications you are going to have a very slim chance of anyone hiring you. So Education is of most importance so that you can learn of neccesary thing for life and also so that you GCSE's and what not. The more of them you have the better your future to me honest in my words

They might give you an interview, but not necessarily, they probably wouldn't give you an interview if they didn't have any vacancies or if they felt you had not gone through the right channels to apply for a vacancy they have.

Your are right , Moonpeach ! No one would hire a person who haven't got any qualification. I would like to share something very strange with u guys. Here in Pakistan, 1 could easily get a fake degree . They just have to pay around 300 USD for a fake qualified degree. So, nowadays people prefer hiring a person who have the ability to do work. They don't see how high qualified degree the person have.

I would say that a person should have ability & knowledge to do the work rather then high-fi qualified degrees .

    Thanks

I think that its the time we should decide what we mean by Education or Educated... we should define it in terms of level i.e. grade wise or school wise or college wise.., knowledge wise, skill wise etc..

Education in fact is much broader term..We can not simply say that a person is educated or not because he has not gone to college, or is not a graduate..
A basic level of education is necessary but high level is a choice....as evident from discussion in this thread too

Unfortunately fake degrees are a problem in many countries. Any astute employer who is hiring someone based on an academic qualification should make a quick phone call to the college to verify the authenticity of the qualification.

I thought Pakistan was the most corrupted country but I guess there are more in the line..

It sounds good but ain't possible for everyone to call the college/university administration & ask for an authentication as some of the colleges doesn't allow this .

Pakistan wouldn't be the most corrupt country in the world. According to the CPI 2008 Table of Transparency Intl, the most corrupt would be Somalia.

I would believe that fake diplomas can be bought from most corrupt countries but these documents normally wouldn't pass through the verification done by big companies. Even if they manage to get in, they would be found out eventually.

Most of the fake diplomas/degrees don't pass through the verification but the remaining one passed as some inside people are involved in it. I agree with ur statement that they would be eventually found out with there working capability .

I would like to give an example of my friend who have got a fake CA [Charted Accounting] degree & he have got a good job in well-known bank. He have got ability to do the work & that's the reason he is getting good offers from other banks.

So his employer didn't take the time to verify his qualifications to do the job, is it any wonder the banks are collapsing and the financial world is in turmoil?

Good point Fergal, I think people with such qualifications are often responsible for damage or collapse of whole organization..as it happens in engineering project, collapse of structure is often due to only few people who have relative less knowledge & are at relative higher positions due to their fake degrees....
In India, its often a practice by employing organizations to check the whole background of candidate, including verification of degree & associate certificates of skills..

I guess this is a good practice before hiring anyone.

A year back, a flyover bridge in Karachi [Pakistan] fall down & took 15 lives. I hope this practice of hiring uneducated & inexperienced people stops in Pakistan =)

See it is important that you get at least a grad degree after 10+2. It will enhance job opportunities for you as some companies don't even hire if you are not a graduate. So, complete your basic grad and then go looking for a job. If you feel, you need to go in for further studies you can opt for long-distance learning and finish it side by side your full time job.

I think completing basic graduate is enough. Just continuing the study with no job can not be beneficial. Like, we can take Bill Gates for example. He was an early College Drop Outs. His knowledge in computer was better. So, he built Microsoft. Now he is the richest man in the world. Leaving education behind, his own effort did the miracle.
