I suppose this is what happens when people feel powerless and are not being heard by those who are in power!

As much as I agree with this. You don't burn places down just so you can be heard. And then do it a day later.

Yeah, and it spread right across London now, but is much the same groups.

I didn't mean to give the impression that I condone such actions, I feel really sorry for the people who have been affected by this and those who have had their property or business destroyed.

Here in Ireland we have the other extreme - the government has been increasing taxes, making severe cuts in our health services (e.g. closing hospitals), drastically reducing the education budget (e.g. cutting special needs assistants from primary schools) and they have increased the pension age to 68. These cuts and taxes have been implemented so that the government can bail out unguaranteed bond holders and corrupt bankers (none of them have been charged yet we have had scandal after scandal) yet we have barely had a protest. I wouldn't like to see Greek or UK style riots here, but I'm not proud of the fact that we take it all lying down either.

As much as I agree Fergal, I have also heard leading support groups and charities say over the past 24 hours that the one demographic they want to converse with are the ones who seem uninterested. They just happen to be the ones involved.

However, there also appears to be a huge number of opportunistic members of the public who are joining in the lootibg and criminality.

More violence again this afternoon, for a third day

Apparently the police are warning that anyone using social media to promote the riots will be arrested.

I don't even think these people rioting are doing it because of cuts and politics. They do it just because they are nasty people and want stuff for nothing. The when people moan they say 'we are struggling in the bad economic times', to make it justified.

It has now got to the point where people are joining in the riots in other areas of the country and London, but is purely mindless idiots now taking the opportunity to get involved in looting.

Manchester police appear to be taking a very firm line, along with Liverpool police. There are also now 16,000 police on the streets in London tonight.

Hopefully the one good thing that may come out of this long term is debate discussion about why this has happened and how to prevent it, and deal with these idiots and teach them more respect and morality.

Looks like Manchester police took a zero tolerance policy last night.

The video below shows them attacking a group of teenagers who were apparently trying to flee from the riots. Reports say that none of the youths they attacked were arrested.
