    PayPal alternative

    Fergal,

I notice that Paymate.com isn't listed. This is an Australian company that has the best security and fastest payments I've experienced. They also fight chargebacks for you, which few payment processors will do. Their customer service is brilliant, and your funds can't be frozen like they can by PayPal. If you're a seller in Australia, New Zealand or North America, check it out. (It accepts payments from more than 150 countries, from memory.)

Paymate.com is eBay's official alternative payment processor, too. After Paymate almost single-handedly thwarted eBay's attempt to force sellers to use PayPal in Australia (as a test before hitting the rest of the world) a couple of years back, eBay finally got the message.

Paymate is older than PayPal, too. And it has a consistent 80%+ customer satisfaction rate. It's payment buttons are easier and more flexible than PayPal's and it has an API, shopping cart, etc that clients can use.

BIG plus... Paymate.com accepts payments from CHINA, which PayPal doesn't. It also has a coveted Australian Financial Services provider license, which PayPal doesn't. They're not easy to get.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks John, I've added them to the list.

    Fergal,

As I understand it, no, they can't. At least, not yet. But it seems to be working toward a presence around the Pacific Rim.

Unless I've missed it, for the Online Payment Processing, I'm sure Google Checkout is a payment gateway.

I’ve been using Paypal since I started and it works great. And so, I think I will be keeping it as my sole payment method in all transactions I’ll make.

PayPal is great, but when they hold your funds simply because it's a large amount, that's annoying.

Liberty Reserve, Alertpay and PayPal are all good payment options though.

Alertpay is a good alternative, but PayPal is the most widely used.

Great to know of the alternatives. It seems I want to experience doing transactions with them also.

The last stats I saw on the topic (2-3 years back) showed that at least 30% (and growing) of your potential buyers do not or will not use PayPal under any circumstances.

That's a hefty chuck of your prospective market to deny by only offering PayPal.

I hope someone will post here all the alternatives we have. It will be helpful to know that Paypal has really close competitors.

I’ve heard of Xoom and I think it has good reviews so I think this can compete with Paypal. Have anyone heard of it?

I've heard of Xoom, but never actually used them Michael. One advantage they may have over PayPal is that they allow cash pick-ups from lots of international locations.

I'd be interested to hear about the experience of anyone who has actually used them.

I've personally used Xoom and western union. Both works just fine. I think Xoom works better because of the instant delivery of the transfer. However, it usually converts the currency to your local currencies.
Paypal is not widely used in China. Plus the cost and procedure is heavy. Is there any other way?
    I appreciate your thoughts!

TransChinaMedia have a look at the Online Payment Processing section in our Useful Online Business Resources thread, do any of those help you?
