Google's announcement of their new Google Instant interface for search results has resulted in a lot of debate and conjecture in the SEO world. One particular blog post, claiming it now makes SEO irrelevant, seems to have hit a nerve with many commenters and produced some fairly heated retorts (if the writers original aim was for a little controversy and linkbait, as many believe, he might regret the decision given the reaction it has received - although picking up a backlink directly from Matt Cutt's is no mean feat).

All of the technical debate aside, there is no question that it will over time lead to an adaptation in search behaviour, what are your initial thoughts on the change?

Do you like the idea of the 'suggested text'?
Do you like seeing 'real time' results as you type?
Will you be turning it straight off?

The Power of Micro-Marketing

How well do you know your market? Like … really know them?

Take a moment and imagine a typical person in your market right now. What is she or he...

How well do you know your market? Like … really know them?

Take a moment and imagine a typical person in your market right now. What is she or he doing? Watching TV – and if so, what’s on? Or is she sitting at her desk, trying to figure out how to pay her bills?

And agonizing? Or is he looking out the window, wondering where his own child is right now – the one who just moved away from home.

This is what I call micro market definition. It’s different from niche-ing, because you already know your niche, right? This is simply carving out a much more specific, detailed picture of the market you already know and love. And more importantly, it’s understanding their exact emotional frame of mind.

Truly effective market definition goes far beyond the usual boring stats like age, marital status, geographic location and education. That’s all ‘old think’. This micro market definition captures the psyche of the person you’re selling to, and really digs into to their day to day situation. It describes their current highs and lows, and what the big needs and wants are that define their lives.

And why is this type of market definition effective? Because when you really, really, really know your audience, you can design a website, a blog, and infoproducts that speak right to their heart. And so you can effectively solve their problems, deliver your work, and live your life’s purpose.

So, yep, this kind of clarity is critical.

To do this, you need to think empathetically. And you need to extend your imagination right into the zone of your market. For instance, if you decide your market is teens going through major life transitions (parental divorce, moving to a new state, life threatening illness in the family, etc.), I want you to really put yourself in the position of that young person.

How exactly do they go through their day? What’s their high point? Their low point? Their mental health break? What song do they hope will come on the radio? What web sites do they hang out at, or how do they communicate with their friends? Terse, tense cell phone calls because they’re so busy? Frantic endless text messages? Long, chatty AIM (instant messenger) conversations? (Right here is an opportunity for non-traditional marketing message delivery.)

But here’s the biggest question — what’s the big need that’s driving them? Is it just to put an end to their parents? Or are they focused on other ‘non-teenager’ issues? Are they suddenly getting a taste of grown up life, so maybe they’re gathering around spiritual websites, or religious affiliations. Or are they drawn to podcasts of world philosophers like the Dali Lama? Or dark teen age angst bands that play grunge? (Here, again, is another possible connection point you can make if you can figure out what sites they linger at.)

See how effective this can be? If you knew, for instance, that your needy teens would be drawn to visit New Thought churches, then that’s a great place to position yourself as a speaker, writer, or blog commenter. Same goes for the blog of existential, angry pop bands. And it goes much further than that.

All truly great marketing begins with empathy. As you really put yourself – like, really, totally and completely – in your people’s position, you extend yourself out of your own little shell. This in turn informs your mission with that critical extra piece – the extra inch that makes your market feel as if you truly understand them.

Stop right now, no matter where you are, and write down ten critical things you need to really remember about your audience. Make sure you imagine your people in your mind (even ask them how you can help.) And bear in mind that helping them is your mission in life – it’s that important!

By really stopping to think, define, and continue defining, you will give your business a tremendous gift: empathy. And did I mention that this process is never really finished? Markets grow and evolve just like our popular culture does. And so one needs to revisit their assumptions about their market annually if not more often.

Think, feel, and imagine your audience. And then go create. That’s where the real joy lives in these businesses.

Tactics for Maximum Adsense Profit

As many marketers know, adsense can be one of the most enticing sources for website revenue. Here’s a few ways to maximize upon the possible profit:...

As many marketers know, adsense can be one of the most enticing sources for website revenue. Here’s a few ways to maximize upon the possible profit:

1.) A tracker Software
This is a big tip in regards to increasing Adsense profit, because the installation of an adsense click tracking software does a few vital things for your website.
a.) the software will track the IP addresses from which the users click to whichever adverstisements they click on, and thus stores this info for future analysis.
b.) tracks vicious hits, and reports them to Google.
c.) the click of advertising sites, IP users, the advertisements address, and the clicking on time.

2.) Invalid Clicks and Malicious Clicks
As mentioned in the first strategy, having an adsense tracker can trace vicious hits, such as the clicking on an ad for a particular IP. To prevent your Adsense account from being suspended, it would be vital to promptly report these clicks, and thus tracking them will be of the upmost importance.

3.) Color-Matching/ Number & Color/Adsense Location
The third strategy for maximizing profit in Adsense would be the location of your Adsense. Adsense could be placed on several advertisements to increase your advertising exposure. Of course, the proper location would make a big difference in relation to the users attention and thus the click through rate. For example, the largest pieces should be placed as advertismenets in three blocks and one link advertising, with the advertising being placed on the top of the page in order to get a higher hit rate.
In regards to Color-Matching, it is psychologically tested that a consumer; in this case user, will be more responsive when the colors match in order to form a sort of branding pattern in their mind. For example, McDonalds uses red and yellow, in their sign, in their straws, and in many of their campaign advertisments. Thus, on your website, the background color and text color to the overall color of the site should match, and at the same time it would improve the quality of your user’s browsing experience while enhancing the hits upon your site.

4.) Preventing Through Rules
Preventing an account suspension is of course vital to increasing longevity and revenue through time. Thus, this goes into following the rules of Google Adsense, and that consists of not clicking on your own adsense advertising, and not changing the Adsense code. There are many other rules to follow that will insure the avoidance of having your account banned but these are two general ones that if followed can keep your extra or full time income around longer.

5.) Evidence for Longevity
Lastly, providing your proof to remain innocent. The main reason for tracking your data through Adsense software in the first place is to provide your statistical data in case of an anomaly in regards to advertising hits. By tracking your data, you can always promptly notify Google officials by submitting this data and thus keeping your innocence as an Adsense advertiser.

In short, there are many guidelines to follow and strategies to implement to maximize your Adsense income. As Google has countered many marketers through Google Adwords throughout the years through its slapping of campaigns, it is always a good thing to stay on Google’s good side. Being more effective in Adsense entails attaining and continuing a good relationship with Google. Doing so, will not only ensure longevity as an advertiser but increase the opportunity to maximize Adsense income in the present and future too.

vBulletin has a highly intuitive thread prefix system, You could set, in the marketplace as an example, WTS, WTB and WTT prefixes to order the threads up a little bit, and they'd only appear in the marketplace.

It's easy to do and I think it would make it so much easier for users, and it'd also help SEO, as instead of WTS - being part of the title, it will be a prefix instead. WTS/WTB/WTT are useless keywords that the Search Engines don't need.

Feel free to send me a PM if you need help setting them up, Fergal. I think they would be a great addition to BAF.

Okay guys, here's an insanely easy way to get months of free hosting, on a VPS no less.

First, if you would, use my affiliate link to sign up to VPS.net, you'll have to choose an initial plan as I believe that the affiliate scheme is only open to members, but don't fret, you'll be paying for one month and letting the affiliate income do the rest..

So, use this link to sign up VPS.NET.

Next, you can sign up to the affiliate scheme by following the instructions in this thread; How to make VPS.net pay you, then you can (if you're tech savvy enough) get users to use your affiliate link by offering them services.

A good idea is: "Use my Affiliate Link to sign up to VPS.net and I will set up your VPS and move your site across, free!"

Each person who signs up via your link earns you, wait for it.. $85 of credit - on VPS.net's lowest VPS plan, that is FOUR MONTHS of free hosting.
