Do you guys have any beliefs to follow when starting up a business? Here in our country we have a lot of superstitious beliefs. We also follow some Chinese practices like the Feng Shui.
We also have this belief that we must have our grand opening on a Full Moon. Some wants to have their grand opening on the 8th, 18th and 28th for number 8 is a lucky number.
Do you guys also have this kind of beliefs?

Here, in our country, while starting some new buiseness, we worship the GOD!! And people think that in future there will be no problems in the buiseness as God will save us from those problems.

There is no harm in doing these things as its our traditional things as makes us all happy 'n pure. But i think one should not be die hard believer. I also believe in God or some supreme power that control us doing right things.

Interesting to be discussed! I think no matter what your belief is, as a human being, we'll return to our root, that we believe as our creator. In my religion, Islam..there are a lot of superstitious practices that are prohibited to be practiced..basically when we start a new step in our lives, the first thing we do is our worship to God, to show our gratitude, our thankful for His blessing. But, it's only for certain people, because in a modern life as now..most people have been far away from all this tradition...

My own personal belief is that your success is up to yourself, albeit with a little bit of luck thrown in. I'm not superstitious and don't subscribe to these kinds of beliefs.
There is a belief in Ireland that "Saturday's sitting is short flitting" which basically means that it is bad luck to start anything new on a Saturday. However, I don't believe it makes any difference myself.

I am not really a 100% believer too. I just keep on askin GOD for the blessings. Every Sunday we go to church either before we open the store in the morning or in the evening after closing. For prayers are still the most powerfull one.
But theres nothing to loose if you will try. :D

I don't really have any superstitious beliefs towards running a business, however I do believe that bad business practices are bad in the long run and will come back to haunt you.
For example, intentionally ripping off customers, such as selling them items you know don't work and not giving refunds.

:D You are familiar with my practices? then maybe we are of the same place.
For example, intentionally ripping off customers, such as selling them items you know don't work and not giving refunds.
Anything bad that is intentionally done were all be coming back to you. Here in our country, No Return No Exchange policy is not allowed. But we never do a refund.

That's called karma. Karma can be bitter sweet. If you do good, you get good in return, but if you do bad, bad things happen. I personally am unsure about the theory of karma, but I guess now that I think about it, I'm weary of doing things bad intentionally...I believe in God though, and I'm a Christian, so I try to lead a Christian life style.

Practically I'm not into these beliefs even though I was raised in a conservative family. However, I try to avoid making important decisions or planning during certain period like all soul's day. Just want to avoid bad luck, that's all.

Well, Belief doesn't matter to me. I do believe in it too. If you are starting a business then people here too worship god and do various thing. But the main thing is you must do your business. You should be clever in your business and make some incomes. You would focus in your work and live up a healthy life. :)

I don't have any superstitious or religious beliefs with regards to starting up a business but I do have a few points that I keep in mind "religiously":
* Make sure I am persistent and devote enough time and sweat to a project.
* Make sure I operate my business debt free if possible, avoiding any frills such as fast computers you don't really need, expensive seminars which may not be any better than a book, high value office space which you may not need to make an impression and is hard to pay for.
* I try to pinch pennies wherever possible. A penny saved is a penny earned. This can come back and bite you though because you often end up with what you pay for.
* I try to know enough about the niche I am focusing on and I read read read whatever I can get my hands on that relates to the enterprise in question.
I guess you could say I follow and cultivate these and other habits in a religious manner.

karma, that's reminds me the tv serie my name is earl, damn in my case i dont have any specific ritual or superstitious beliefs, you may do any kind of ritual or whatever you want, but if you dont have a business plan, a goal to achieve, something why work for, if you don't put all your effort and take very seriously your business, doesn't matter wich day you have started on or the ritual you have made, thats my point

Well in most asian countries like in Indonesia or Philippines and some in Singapore, the first sale of the day is very important. Your first sale of the day usually determines how your succeeding sales will turn out. If your first customer/s are very difficult, you can expect the rest of the day's sales to be as difficult as the first one. So the businessmen usually keep the first cash note they receive from their first sale or even swipe/rub this note with the rest of their goods especially if the customer was a good one.
Anyway, I don't believe in these superstitions but believe that you'll do well in your business if you provide something better than your competitors. If you provide a better price or market your product well, then you should do better than them. Also, the most important aspect in business in my opinion is good customer service. Consider this, merchant A sells product X at $10 and merchant B also sells product X at $10 but merchant B provides better service. Which merchant do you think will customers favor?

Does that mean you can get a better bargain by buying first thing in the morning?

Actually, that depends on the product they're selling. If they're selling consumables that are likely to spoil, like fish for example, you'll only get a better bargain at the end of the day because the fish is no longer fresh. But yeah, if it's not consumables and you're really their first customer, you will get a better bargain by buying first thing in the morning :)

To tell you the truth, sometimes it's our beliefs that sometimes keeps us from achieving success.
While growing up, we always hear our parents saying, "The rich are always getting richer and the poor are always getting poorer". This is actually a very negative belief that states that the poor cannot become rich. We might also hear them saying, "Money doesn't grow on trees!" This is also negative in a way because our parents are saying that it is very difficult to make money.
So if you want to become successful, you must change your money beliefs first.
"It doesn't matter if you're poor or rich. If you have poor money beliefs, you'll always be poor!"

Just start the business with the belief that the business would be successful if you offer discounts at the first day to your customers. :P

Money Beliefs >> Money Habits >> Money Results
Above is an Illustration of how most motivators and speakers usually explain on how to be successful. If you have good money beliefs then you will develop good money habits. Good money habits in turn leads to good money results.
So anyone who wants to attain success and be rich should change his money beliefs first before anything else.

I don't believe in superstitious beliefs because these beliefs is not on the bible. The only thing I would like to do in opening a new business is to have a blessing service from the church.

well the most superstitious country award will obviously goes to my country, India. their are so many pujas and rituals one does before starting a new business. You also have to add a different budget slot in your initial investment plan for that :)
