View Full Version : Separate forum for articles and tutorials - do you think we should add one?

Does it bother you when you see new threads, which contain articles, posted in our normal forums? I'm referring to threads which don't pose any questions or ask for advice, threads along the lines of "Top Five Tips to Run a Successful Business".

Do you think it would help Business Advice Forum if we included a separate section for Articles and Tutorials?

The forum might be entitled "Articles & Tutorials" and have the following sub-forums;

Business Articles
Internet & Webmaster Tutorials
Personal Success & Effectiveness Articles

Please let me know your opinion on this.

Thanks!

I liked the idea. Separate forum for articles and tutorials will make it easier to find articles that will be very useful for personal development and our business. It also make it easier to find (on other forum) a thread that only asks for advice or need an immediate answer...

Having them separated on different section will make this forum look cleaner.
But I wonder if the posts there should be moderated so we can check for copy-paste posts with credit and such.

I agree, they should also be checked for correct advice, no one wants to read a false article.

Thanks for the suggestion GekiDan. I haven't decided as to whether or not to create a separate article section yet. If we do add one, there will be strict rules re copyright etc.

Yes, i do think this is a good idea.

As GekiDan and Nathan previously mentioned though, i definitely think posts should need to be approved before showing there.

Before you put them on separate forums, you need to make them private so that it will be checked and then published after correct validation to post.

Not make it private but posts must be approved by the admin and mods.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I've decided not to create a separate section for articles and tutorials, at least for the moment. However, I have updated the Business Advice Forum Rules (http://www.businessadviceforum.com/showthread.php?p=2) to include the following;

You may post a maximum of one article per day on Business Advice Forum and you must make at least one other helpful post, on the day you post your article

Hopefully this will still allow the posting of content that is helpful to our members and also encourage active forum discussion. We will trial it for some time and see how it works out. If the new rule is not helpful to the forum, we will change it in the future.

Any feedback would be welcome.

Thanks!

I don't think members will do that since it wasn't followed on the Marketplace Section.

Good point GekiDan, I will be updating the Free Advertising Forum rules soon and once the rules have been updated they will be enforced.

There are a relatively small number of members who regularly post articles on the forum, so the new rule should not be that difficult to enforce.

You are right. But as long as the section is highly moderated, there's gonna be no problem at all.
