Hello Guys
Here is a question for you.. It seem to be very obvious after reading the answer but, its very helpful...
Suppose that your friend gave a Cheque of worth 10000$ and you applied it for withdrawl.. your friend's account balance is only 9800$. Your cheque will not be passed now.. And your friend is not available.. You need money Urgently!! What will you do ????

I would do what Fergal said, but I have a question here and I don't know if the problem that you posed is real or theoretical. If your friend gave you that much money, he should be readily available so if any problems occur like how he's $200 less than the requested withdrawal amount, then he should be able to help you with that. I personally wouldn't give someone that much money without making sure I was in contact with him/her.

Let me illustrate an experience..
My father once gave 300000 Rs (Indian Currency) to one of his friends out of loyalty. He gave a cheque while paying back but suddenly disappeared from the town and applied for Insolvency Petetion (IP).. I think you know what is IP.. Knowing that, my father went to bank for withdrawing the money.. The check didnot pass.. Since my father is a regular customer to the bank, he enquired why the cheque has not been passed.. after knowing that, my father deposited 20k and got back the money..
The funny thing is.. many other's cheques (given by the same person) have not been passed due to the same reason.. Sometimes, our commonsense fools us isn't it.. we realise how foolish we were after such things happen... So, I got to know this from my father and i shared my experience :)

Wow, I see what you meant sridatta with your story there. Yeah I guess that can happen, and the only way would be to insert money into the persons account. Yes, I can attest that common sense can drive us off track, I mean, personally I have a very small amount of it and it's caused me to make many stupid decisions in the past (and i've lost money and points because of it, specifically because I bought a worthless domain and I could not sell it) but you learn from your mistakes!

I hope this has nothing to do with "you have won..." scams. A "friend" send you a cheque, than there is not enough $ on the acc. You send your $ to the acc. than your bank realize the cheque is from money laundering or something, they take the cheque, you lose your money because the criminals do take your "clean" cash and at the same time you become a part of the crime... Be careful and get in touch with a friend, before you send any of your money... I don't know the real situation but I would be cautious with this...

I wonder how he becomes part of the crime since he is getting paid from his friend for a legal purpose, may be because he ahs sold something to him. Now if his friend has earned that money in a wrong way then thats the headache of income tax department.

a have heard of such a thing happening in the past, the thing is a think they should change the way that cheques work this could mean a bit more fraud but banks always had that problem but mainly sorted it out,a think they should let them be able to take withdrawels and even if they donthave the money they should be allowed to take it cause they gave them the cheque, why somepeople give away such large amounts of money like in these cases is beond me anyway

Hmmm, anyways, why would a friend gave you 10k? care to share more details about this? So i can provide you with a definite answer.
However, Fergal's got a point.:)

Yeah, why would they just give you $10,000.
If they did I am guessing they would use a more secure way. Rather then using a cheque. If they know you "you stated friend" there would be a lot easier ways to do so.
