It is estimated that there are 1,100,000,000 to 1,300,000,000 internet users in the world.

For the US the population in 2000 was 281,421,906 with 124,000,000 internet users (44.1%*), by 2007 the population was estimated at 301,967,681 and the number of internet users jumped to 212,080,135 (70.2%*). While the US population went up 7.30% the number of internet users went up 71.03%.

In Europe the top five internet using nations are Germany, U.K., France, Italy, and Russia.

China has about 162,000,000 internet users.

Very interesting stats. I've often wondered whether I should target websites for my own country only or go for a more global market. I can see from your links that there are over 2 Million Internet users in Ireland, that's a pretty big market. However, the numbers get smaller and smaller as you start breaking it down into niches.

I never imagined that South Korea would be in this list. Most of us can't live without internet. If it's taken away from us, then I am pretty sure that most of us will die! China will be at after a couple of years because of their population and economic growth.

Looking at these Stats, China now has the most number of Internet users. It's not just the size and pace of China's rise as an economic power that is unparalleled in history but also the increase in number of Internet users.

By the way, did you know that Jim Rogers, the investment legend and commodities expert already moved to Singapore and flying across the fareast and giving talks, because he expects China will soon be the biggest economic power? Did you also know that his 3-year old daughter is already a fluent Mandarin speaker? Now, what does this all tell you?

I guess the english speaking nations should stop criticising the chinese people for their bad english but learn chinese instead hahaha.

Now Asia has become the place for investing. I do think that the rate of internet users in Asia would increase rapidly and by the next 5 years hopefully there would be more Asian countries in the list.

Yes, it might even be lesser than 5 years. India too (by the way, many people don't know that India is a part of Asia too) might probably surpass even the U.S. and become number two. A lot of Indians are also now going back to India from Silicon valley because of a lot of opportunities in their country and to be near their families.

As for China, if they loosen up a bit on their censorship they would open up a lot more of business opportunities in the internet.

I've heard that the top students in India generally study IT in college. In the Western world the top students have a tendency to study medicine.

Fergal, I think medicine is a top choice there too. The number of Indian docs here in the States is quite high.

Well on Monday I had to choose my subjects for grade 10. I study in a british school so there are around 69 nationalities in the school. In my class most of the students are from Asia. From my class all of the students took IT and over 90% of the students took business studies. IT and business are the most considered subjects nowadays especially IT

Yes, there are phenomenon in the world, TI became the favorite subject in the school. In my country there are more lots of IT school. I mean vocation school for IT subject. It make the internet user in Indonesia increase rapidly. Indonesia become one the most internet user in asia.

wow. I am Surprised to see that Indonesia has more than 20 million users. It's 5th on the list of Asia.

Quite interesting things to see. Asia on the top list whereas Australia doesn't have much. Seems like it's due to continent's size.
