To help ensure the success of your own business, it's important to realize how important a business plan is (http://www.businessadviceforum.com/showthread.php?t=529). By following the below elements of a good business plan, as a new business-owner it should be easy for you to stay on track and stay productive during the early and growing stages of your business. :)

Always include the following information, to be used as headers, in your business plan - provide detailed output for each element:

Company description
Product/service description
Target market
Marketing strategy
Competition
Pricing strategy
Key people of the business
Experience/Expertise
Start-up cost(s)
Financing

By following the above procedure, you'll be able to create a good business plan that will adequately keep you organized while starting a new business. :)

Good list. I'd also add that it is important to include a 1 - 2 page executive summary at the start of the plan. You should also include a section on operations / day-to-day management.
