Most of the times users like something given free. If you want to setup new business please think twice if you are preferring to use freeware products. There are many current cases where all these freeware trying to install malicious spyware, and much worse giving away your personal information include names, bank details and credit card information.
If you still want to use these freeware, it is up to you. But do not feel regret later if your money taken away.....

There are lots of very high quality free software packages out there. Once you use a reputable provider you shouldn't have to worry too much about spyware. You should also remember that paid software is also open to abuses, scams and spyware.
An example of a very reputable free business software package is http://www.openoffice.org/

Fergal, there is a difference between freeware and open source, both of which are free. The goals are what sets them apart, open source has the goal of spreading good software that is constantly updated for the benefit of everyone, freeware is a gimmick to sell you something, usually an upgraded version.
(edit: Add that to the list, I missed it when adding my bookmarks.)
