Many people take nature for granted ......and many people believe that water as cheap and abundant ....but one in five people on the planet do not have adequate access to safe, clean drinking water.
IBM has come with Smarter Water Management

IBM launched Big Green Innovations two and a half years ago to capitalize on constraints in energy generation, carbon emissions, energy in the data center, and water

Good to see a major multi-national corporation putting resources into water conservation and research. Long term it will probably be a good investment too, from a financial perspective. As water becomes scarcer and scarcer it will become a very valuable commodity.

Thats a great news. Now, big corporates are concentrating on environmental contributions also. For example, the Managing Director of one popular corporate called PRICOL (http://www.pricol.com/) Dr.S.V.Balasubramaniam and a team of trustees is running a big apex body called SIRUTHULI (http://www.siruthuli.org).
Siruthuli is a registered trust managed by trustees and apex body and supported by volunteers drawn from a wide cross-section of the society. This body is continuously working on improving the water resources and water facilities to the city (coimbatore) and it has become quite successful for the past 2 years. Even the Ex-President of India Mr.Abdul Kalam has appraised a lot about this organization.
The main motto of this organization is "SAVE WATER, SAVE LIFE"

It's about time the corporate world began to take notice of the impact they are having on the environment. Hopefully more and more blue chip companies will follow their example.

Yes. Actually, this concept is referred as "CSR" or "Corporate Social Responsibility" in business related academic literatures. Most of the corporates will declare its CSR in public like in their Annual reports, Websites etc. Like saving our environment by IBM, each company will take one CSR and act for that.
This is a great concept and happy to see that such academics are getting more practical now-a-days...!

It's becoming increasingly important for businesses to implement a CSR policy and to act responsibly in the community. My local Chamber of Commerce has an award scheme that recognises and awards local companies with outstanding performance in the area of CSR.

Such a big and global company like IBM should do best efforts, because previously he was made a lot of junks by mass producing PC or other peripherals, so that thing about recycling, green solution, etc become something must for IBM and friends.
Just my opinions.

Good point Waver. Companies that have profited from selling products that have done a lot of damage to the environment should be compelled to make a positive contribution to improving the environment now.

Yes it is for many companies. They promote a green agenda, not because they really care, but because of the positive PR it can bring their company. However, it is still good that they are helping the environment, even if their motives are not that pure and they profit from it. At least they are conscious of public opinion.

Very good to know this movement by a giant business company. Small particles form a complete object. Small efforts from all quarters will make this world a safe haven for human being.
