View Full Version : DP banning people for posting in the competition thread
Norrad
Wed 17th Jun 2009, 00:20
I just tried logging in to Digital Point and noticed that I have been given a 1 week ban for posting in the Business Advice Forum competition thread. Apparently they thought my post was innapropriate, oh well, no biggy. Business Advice Forum is way more fun and helpful anyway.

Ey? Why should they ban you for doing that Norrad? What was the reason they gave when you were given the 1 week ban?

Sorry about that Norrad, I really don't know why they would ban you for that. Did they inform you as to which particular post you were banned for?

The ban said that my post contributed no value to the forum and was only made to increase my post count :(
It doesn't matter though, I'm much more at home over here.

Thanks for the kind words Norrad, we're glad to have you.

DP are very very strict on what they consider post padding and thread bumping. Thanks posts, I'm interested, good job, you rock etc etc are all not allowed. Best to review their rules Norrad so you don't get caught again because they'll give you a week's ban for each infraction and then a full one if you get too many.
If it's any consolation, I don't know anyone at DP that's not had one at one point in time. I got one myself when I was new for saying thanks. Regulars will tell you the smart thing to do is not to complain or you'll get another one for that: just suck it up and hang in there. A week's not long. :)

I previously got a one month ban there for a reply to a site for sale thread. My reply asked for the OP to PM me the site domain, because he didn't want to reveal it in the thread. I knew the rules and could understand the ban if my reply simply requested a PM, but I had also asked a question about the site in my post, so I thought the ban was a bit harsh. But as Kay says, there's not much you can do, just wait it out and read the rules.
We try to be kinder and more appreciative of our valued members here on Business Advice Forum. :)

Yes, this is true. I was banned one week a week ago. I was just replying and posting and the other second they told me that I am banned for a week. Never knew the reason; I think they are getting conceited and just ban people for no reason. However, this site is nicer. Go Businessadviceforum.

I have heard a lot of complaints about the DP being rather ban-happy. I was banned a few weeks ago but not really for anything I did. A hacker managed to access my account and scam a few people. Luckily most people were understanding since it had happened to a number of other members. It took some doing and back and forth emailing but a mod helped me get my account reinstated.
Unfortunately, now I have one negative iTrader there. I spoke with the person who gave it and they said they would reverse it after explaining and offering to show the emails as proof but they reneged on their promise so it's still there. I did leave an explanation note, though, so hopefully most people will see all positives I've had instead.

They do get a little crazy over there sometimes. I didn't post a full enough review for a product I bought and got an infraction, so the next post about it I went in to more detail. Why use 50 words to say what you can in 10?

Oscar Wilde once wrote something along the lines of,
Apologies for writing such a long letter, but I didn't have time to write a short one!

There are a few diamonds-in-the-rough there. But yes, I agree, most of the posts there are garbage.

Not been banned yet, I must follow the rules or the mod's might like me :P
DigitalPoint is garbage. Complete garbage.
I've picked up a few good things there, but most of the things in the forum I frequent are pirated and stolen.

hey i have just seen that the moderators of Digital Point has CLOSED down the thread of "$7 Free Today & Everyday - Plus Free Entry for $20,000 Competition".
Moderators of DP are banning people before for posting in this thread, as they consider this is just to increase the post count and spamming. But now they have closed the thread so that no body can post.
What u think??

Yes Rohit, I was surprised to notice that this morning.
The most recent winner that I was unable to post in that thread is Benjamincip.

I don't understand why DP mods closed the thread and are banning people. Are you going to start up a new thread at DP, Fergal?

Dp is a waste of time to be honest. I put a directory up in the directory section but in the right directory section so I got a infraction, then i got another infraction for it a month later and now im banned for 6 days so stupid. They are on a major power trip so I started my own webmaster forum.

Uh Oh.
I just got 3 infractions in the same thread, it's one of my bidding threads and the infracted posts were "Bid Noted" and updates on PM bids and such.
Hell, the final winner of the auction was banned, it's lucky he got my email details in time.
How can we be expected to keep our bidders informed?

I was also banned there twice for saying "thanks" and "I'm interested". The mods are kinda super strict in implementing their rules.

I was about to ask the same thing here. Will you still continue the contest or finally stop it?

DP is so strict in any members posted! They don't really actually listening to what others want to say out even though the members is right! I hate DP mods! They banned me for misunderstanding situation and I could'nt do more about it.

Community sites and forums are nothing without their members. It never ceases to amaze me, how many Admins forget this and don't listen to their members.

They are banning if they hate the members. I can see the DP is dying nowadays, Last 2006 it has a lot of new threads but now I can see about 10-20 new threads (Most of em is spam). Also, they're banning members that succeed in selling in Marketplace. . I think they hate successful member in their forum.

I wouldn't worry too much about a ban. Recently Steven Wagenheim got a 7-day ban from the Warrior Forum. If you don't know Steven just consider this: his production includes 12,500 posts on the Warrior Forum, almost 1,800 articles published at ezinearticles, at least a dozen excellent IM products.
If this kind of person is punished with a ban...I sincerely couldn't care less if I got one.

I've seen similar things happen on DP, members with lots of positive reputation and huge post counts getting banned. It's difficult to understand it. You'd think that if someone is such an integral part of a community for such a long period of time that they could work something out with the Admin, without issues getting to a stage where a ban is issued. Obviously, someone with over 12K posts knows the forum rules and the forum Admins & Moderators know the member very well. Difficult to understand.

New moderators, maybe?

Could well be. Perhaps they need to spend more time educating their Mods so that they respect their members.
Anyway that's enough about DP :)

I have been banned for a week and the reason was bumping threads. I had just replied to the posts made by other members. Anyways, i am satisfied because running such big forum as DP is not a easy thing. They have been successful and cannot satisfy all members. Many SPAMMERS will be entering to the forum and then controlling them can be much difficult. So, we should understand that DP is big forum and staffs there are doing there best. Sometimes there can be mistake and we should digest it. And, they are banning for maximum a month, not lifetime. I have found some people being banned for lifetime also but they will have specific reason like creating double account.
I would be glad if DP would remove lifetime ban because what if someone creates a account by mistake or knowingly to ban a member using same IP ? They can ban the new account but not both.

I don't know why DP is banning users for small incident. Bumping old thread isn't bad, the thread can be locked though.
I have been hearing so much complain about DP. I don't know what the DP staffs are doing.

Digital Point apparently wishes to eradicate all comments whose purpose only benefits the messenger and emphasize on posts that have a potentiality to beget discussion amongst the members of its community, and I certainly don't see the problem in it. I personally wouldn't leave the definition of spam to the interpretation or perception of a message of one individual, a moderator, but, relatively speaking, I have to say that many other forums have much worse ways of running things than they. Either way, hopefully, they don't turn into IGN's message board, which is probably what happens when, for whatever reason, a large forum begins to exercise more and more power visibly over its members. No matter what, humans don't like that, and content providers of their own free will on forums won't take that.

They are very straight on the BST rules, 7 days banned to the member who against this rules. Cant really ban DP since there are too many spammer. I agreed that some moderator are simply judge and give infraction to the member. Anyway, leave it or accept it.
I'm one of the DP member too, and i can see now there are too many spammer

I was also one of the DP member and I liked DP so much but I was banned by telling that I have a duplicate Account... I never had a duplicate account in my life. I left out DP and as it has very very much spammers now, I think now Shawn is thinking to turn of his forum that is why he is telling all the moderators to ban.

Quality is more important than quantity. However, all the forum/website need quantity of member at the beginning stage, once they grown, then they will consider on the quality.
It sames happen to google, it is very easy to become adsense publisher feew year ago. I still remember that i build a blog at blogger.com, and simply apply for adsense. I get approved within 24 hours, i mean my blog is established 24 hours and get accepted by adsense. But this kind of thing will never happen now because google have too many adsense publisher now, so they are tighten the requirement and ban those low quality website/blog.

The posts like ok, thanks, hi, and other exaggerations are considered as spam. All these posts are considered useless as they have no appropriate requirement to be posted.

Well,I have been a member of DP since 3rd Feb 2009 and This is the first time i got banned ! ..Its just a 7-day buy/sell/trade ban But a huge loss to me :(
I checked my mails and found 17 Pm's and 1 infraction on DP. Moreover, Instead of writing the specific reason for banning, they sent me this :
Dear ekta74,
You have received an infraction at Digital Point Forums.
Reason: 7-Day Buy/Sell/Trade Ban
-------
Where is the reason for 7-Day ban ???
Anyways,Can't do anything !!
