View Full Version : Spammer!

Unfortunately a couple of spammers posted over 100 spam advertising posts here on Business Advice Forum yesterday. The posts have been deleted and the spammers have been banned.
I'd like to apologize for the fact that these unsightly posts appeared on our community and assure you that I am working hard to try to ensure that this does not happen again.

Good work Fergal! Nice to know that the spammers are dead and you are administrating this place actively. Some BAF moderators also need to take care of this job as they are ment to clean those junks! and moderate BAF. :)

Thanks for your support devilbatista. It's a shame that we have to see spam posts at all. It's a constant battle to keep the forum clean. The fact that we are a personal success and business forum means that we are particularly attractive to spammers.

Nobody can keep Spammers out from the forum, the only way is
- Active Moderation.
Thou, having effective safety, Spammers can access once they find hole in the security network.

I'd have to agree that spammers cannot be totally kept out from the forum but at least we should be able to make it hard for them to spam in BAF or even to register here.
Maybe we can implement some changes so as to avoid spam like:
- A simple question when members register. This is to prevent bots from registering.
- Members should only be able to make another post after 60 seconds. This is important so spammers would have trouble spamming posts.
- Installing some VB Anti-Spam Mods like: vbStopForumSpam (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=176481&highlight=stopforumspam.com), Spam Decimator (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=183244)

Thanks Nazreen, I actually have a mod installed that is very similar to Spam Decimator, it lets me delete spammers and all their posts very quickly.
I've subscribed to vbStopForumSpam and will implement it or something similar if we run into further difficulties.

Really Fergal, don't you think bumping them off is going just a bit too far? I mean, I know they're annoying but geesh... :p :D
Just teasing. You guys do great and it's much appreciated. :) Everything seems to be going nice and smoothly now. :)

Kay, I'm sure you're not the first to think along those lines when it comes to spammers.

Besides, 'bumping off' sounds way to pleasant. You gotta get 'Gitmo' on them, ;)
