Principal Office of US Consulate in Lahore Bryan D Hunt, PML-N leaders including Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Chaudhary Nisar Ali Khan were also present on the occasion.
They discussed the prevailing political situation in the country with special reference to the situation arising due to disqualification of Sharif brothers by court, imposition of governor rule in Punjab, long march and sit-in.
Nawaz Sharif told the US Ambassador that PML-N is committed to honour the promises it made with the people during the elections.
He told her about the party’s stance regarding independence of judiciary, restoration of judges and supremacy of constitution and said struggle for achieving these objectives would continue.
Talking about the long march, he said, it would be peaceful and there was no possibility of military intervention as a result of long march.
US Ambassador said US and European countries want strong and stable democracy in Pakistan. She said that the prevailing political situation in Pakistan could affect war against terrorism and non-state elements may benefit from it.
She said international community including US want economic development and political stability in Pakistan as a stronger Pakistan is in the interest of the US.
She underlined the importance of dialogue among political forces for sorting out political differences, strengthening democratic institution and solution of political problems to overcome political turmoil in the country.
