Forrester Research has predicted that spending on European online advertising will increase by 10% in 2009. This is lower than the 2007 growth rate of 30%. However, a 10% growth rate is great news for online publishers, especially during recessionary times.

It is absolutely no doubt a very good news in these recessionary times but still I wonder how much it will impact online publishing business globally too, when the total had declined from 30% to 10% in 2009. Moreover big names like Google Adsense in competition, I have still no idea how many others will be benefited from this???????

In related news, research has shown that teens spend an average of 31 hours per week online. More here (http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/02/10/how-do-you-compare-teens-spend-31-hours-a-week-online/).

The online advertising industry is increasing in importance all the time. It is becoming more important than TV advertising. There are excellent opportunities for web publishers to learn this business from the ground up. The entry barriers are much less than in almost any other industry.

Scifi, you mention Adsense being in competition. But surely Adsense represents an excellent opportunity for every publisher to start earning revenue from their site?

Hi Fergal...My mistake ..I was referring Google adsense in competition to other online advertising service providers because while the business of publishing will increase, simultaneously advertising will also get increased because two are closely linked...

More and more businesses are stepping up their efforts in advertising their products and services especially during this recession. Most companies here use offline advertising as well as online so advertising agencies and companies here are also reporting increase in revenue. I think that this is the first time in my life that I bought a Saturday paper that is almost 2 inches thick! :)

Nazreen, European expenditure on print,TV and radio advertising appears to be falling in these recessionary times - does the same apply in Singapore?

The use of affiliates to generate online sales will only increase, especially with the current economic climate.

If you haven't already positioning yourself to take advantage of all the niches that you can is a must do activity.

CPA networks will pay you per lead and per sale, and there are dozens of those out there. Plus all the in house affiliates sales that companies do that seek to eliminate the middle man of the CPA networks.

During times like this a lot of businesses do just the opposite of what they should, cutting employees and advertising, not wanting to take a cut themselves. The customers dollars get thin do even more advertising and customer service people are needed.

As far as taking on Google and Yahoo you can use them to make your money, you don't have to fight them.
