A few days back, the beta version of Windows 7 was made available to the public. I've downloaded it, and taken some screenshots. For me, the OS is kick ass, it's amazing at speed and even more amazing at the graphical effects.
WOW!
Here are the screenies. Eh, BAF looks cool in Windows 7. :D

Have you downloaded it yet?

Nope, I haven't downloaded it. I prefer to let others work out all the bugs and glitches on things and then get the bug-free version of a program. Looks nice enough though and good to hear the speed's improved. :) Can't believe Paint has finally been updated LOL.

Looks very good Swastik, thanks for sharing those pictures with us. I haven't downloaded it yet, like Kay I'm not very adventurous when it comes to new software releases.
Off Topic - Do you know what country is shown in the image with your screen background?

Nope. The time I took it actually, it was all unsettled. Now, I've everything in place - everything installed and configured etc. Take a look now:
Apart from the taskbar flashing when too many windows are open, no problems until now. I've reported the taskbar flashing to MS, and am exploring other features as well. :)

Windows 7 beta looks very good indeed Swastik. But nope, I haven't downloaded it too because I'm not that technically inclined. Microsoft has also warned not to install Windows 7 beta in computers that you use everyday - I use mine everyday. This is because it hasn't fully been tested yet and it might crash.
I've seen the video and it offers a lot of new features to look forward to.

Yup, but I've made backups and have everything packed up in case anything bad happens. :)
I just couldn't resist after the videos.:o:D

I've seen a lot of threads on a lot of forums about this.
Over all it is a good testing and marketing ploy by MS, especially with the flop of Vista.

I think it's only fair that they give this as a free upgrade for Vista users but this is highly unlikely.
How much do you think the new Windows 7 is gonna cost? Do you think it's worth upgrading to Windows 7? For myself, I think I'll still stick to my Windows XP for the time being.

A pre-release version of Windows 7 was available to the first 2.5 million people who downloaded it from Microsoft official website which is not available any more......
That means many of us here had miss the chance of obtaining Windows 7 free of cost....
However I also like using XP which is more handy & user friendly than Vista( atleast for myself...).........
But I have heard that window 7 needs a lot of hardware customization before you can feel its full performance.... so atleast it is of no use to me with RAM 0f 512 MB..:D

Rumors reported (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2341007,00.asp) that they may, but only on future sales of Vista, not ones already out there.
According to the document, users who buy Vista machines between July 1, 2009 and January 31, 2010 will be eligible for the free Windows 7 upgrade.
" How much do you think the new Windows 7 is gonna cost? " Too much. I'll not be buying unless I can't run my computer without it. :)

On a side note, I was reading at Crunchgear that Microsoft's planning to roll out (http://www.crunchgear.com/2009/02/12/microsoft-to-open-retail-stores) bricks and mortar stores now. Seems a funny time to be getting into that side of business to me, given the overheads involved compared to having an online store plus the fact they have physical shelf space in so many tech stores already.

Kay, that could be a labeling gimmick too. Like the Gateway stores I have seen. Mainly mom and pop places with a Gateway banner in the window.

Just Have a Look at the Microsoft minimum hardware recommendations & requirements of Windows 7 Beta-
Windows 7 Beta recommendation:
1 GHz 32-bit or 64-bit processor
*
1 GB of system memory
*
16 GB of available disk space
*
Support for DirectX 9 graphics with 128 MB memory (to enable the Aero theme)
*
DVD-R/W Drive
*
Internet access
Note: Some product features of Windows 7, such as the ability to watch and record live TV or navigation through the use of "touch," may require advanced or additional hardware.
How many of you here are confident that Window 7 will work fine on your system without any hassle?????...;)

That's quite surprising. I wonder will the stores sell hardware or will they focus completely on software. I could understand it if they sell hardware. But personally I would wonder why a company would open a software retail store when so much software is now purchased online.
It's a different industry I know, but my hometown had four or five record stores before the Internet. Now there is only one.

Not sure what you mean by a labeling gimmick, pendelton. Please elaborate on that.

I thought so too. I couldn't see why they'd want to do it unless they have some huge master plan to roll out something no one knows about. Maybe they're going to start selling computers instead of just the software. ;)
