Now this is a great idea. Sarah's Smash Shack in San Diego provides the rooms, the breakables (or bring your own), the protective gear and a steel plated wall to hurl things at. Love it! With all the stresses in the world, who hasn't felt like doing that.

CNN article on it: http://money.cnn.com/2008/09/17/smallbusiness/smash_shack.smb/index.htm

Now we're talking, much better than fish pedicures or snake massages, much more up my street :) I'd be a bit concerned that the safety procedures and protective clothing might take the fun out of it.

Personally I feel that they will need to add something else to the business, if it is to survive. Something that will give a bit of variety to visitors and will also help bring in revenue. Their prices also seem a little high. I expect to buy low quality plates cheaper than what they sell them for.

Unfortunately, this wouldn't be my cup of tea. Even though I think that this is a good way to de-stress, I feel that after this smashing session I would be thinking about the plates and china that I broke and with that the money I spent. :(

If Fergal will buy low quality plates, I believe that if it were me, I would buy plastic ones instead. I can throw them over and over again and they wouldn't break. :)

Well, opening a shop like that in the US I thought was pretty brave of her to try, even with all the protective gear! Prices I felt were high too but no more so than a nice lunch would be. I think it would do more good for you and would have less cholesterol for sure.

What I really liked was you can bring a large picture or poster and they'll paste it on the wall for you to use as a target. I can think of a few people I'd have on it! Crazy as it sounds, I can see it working.

If it makes you feel any better, they donate the broken stuff to make mosaics, Nazreen. The smashing's the fun part! You just don't get that great sound with plastic bouncing on the carpet and it's better than punching your boss or kicking the cat. If it's only once in a blue moon, I think it'd be worth the money as a treat. :D

I knew a counsellor that used to foster teens. He had a huge packing crate in his back yard with a pile of broken crockery beside it. He used to send the kids out there to work off their frustrations, doing the very same thing. When he reads this, I bet he'll need to go do that himself for not thinking before about turning it into a business!

Sometimes all measures in the world to relax yourself & give away your feeling of stress from your mind & heart are of no aid to us.It is very necessary to keep your efficiency & energy alive that is must to do some productive work or job in the desired manner.
Stress reduces not only your working capability but also your efficiency & also affects your health.
Analysing all these reasons in front of giving some money to destress yourself is not a tough or expensive deal according to me.

A nice relaxing walk is a great way to de-stress.

Nothing clears the mind like being outside, that's true. I spent the day raking leaves and burning them. We've got about an acre and a half of land so it's no small job but I feel much better today than I have in weeks and I just know it's from that. The combination of fresh air and doing something that doesn't need a lot of concentration is very therapeutic to me. Of course, now I'll be up all night working to make up for lost time but it was worth it. Remind me I said that tomorrow when I'm complaining about aching muscles. :D

I raked some leaves myself on Saturday, but my garden's a lot smaller than yours I'm afraid :) My leaves went into the compost bin.

For me, I cook in order to destress. I find that I am very happy while cooking. Cooking is so much fun as I get the chance to experiment with different types of recipes. The thing that's also good about it is that after you're done cooking, you get to eat what you cooked and I love eating!

Also, when I serve my food to my family or friends, it gives me great satisfaction to see them eating happily with smiles on their faces and appreciating my cooking. Why are they happy? That's because I added my special ingredient which is 'LOVE' :)

Whenever I get stressed or tense, I always prefer eating lot of tasty food or sometimes chocolates & if both are not available, then I prefer having a little bit of nap..!!!
By the way, chocolates are very good in making one; de-stress & it had been a scientifically proven fact too!!!!

It is indeed, I remember reading that. And dark chocolate was better than milk, which is good because it's my favorite. It has the same effect on the brain as falling in love apparently, elevating all the feel good hormones. Cheaper than a date too! :D

I'm guilty of munching more when I'm stressed too and also when I'm bored. It's a bad habit to get into definitely as I know I have put weight on this year. Like today, we've had extremely bad icy weather here so the phone lines were down for hours (the joys of rural living... ),which meant no internet for me. I probably ate a pound of rubbish while I was raiding the fridge over the day because I was stressing about everything I had to do and couldn't plus bored stiff. I even cleaned.

Yeah Fergal, I often eat too much chocolates & it is one of my favorite taste dish too... I am eating this since my childhood & God is very great & helpful to me in this regards that I am not too fat & my weight is only 60kgs with BMI 23....
