In today's world, consultancies are becoming the best part of business. Because most of the companies recruit through consultancy. If guys recommended by consultancy are going to be recruited, then they will get money. If they do 10 dealings per month, surely they will get huge amount of money in their pocket.

I have a friend who's working part-time in a recruitment agency. She's only doing this after office hours and doing quite well in this. It gives her extra money which is quite useful especially during these times.
There's also a lot of competition for this kind of work and you have to be fast in getting the required candidates to fill up the job openings. Since she's not doing it full time, some of the positions might have already been filled up while she's at work in her day job.

Recruitment consultants and head hunting agencies do charge very high commissions. I've heard of commissions of up to 33% of the candidates first year's salary for a head hunting agency. Companies will pay a lot in order to get the right people to work for them.

Does anyone know of companies in the recruiting field that are looking to hire someone on a part time basis? I have applied to a few but they all required a couple of years experience in this field.

If you're in Singapore, I could help you out because I have two friends working in a recruitment agency.
Anyway, as to your lack of experience, most fresh graduates have a problem with this interview question. The book on job applications that I've read before stated that we shouldn't feel defeated when asked this question. Instead, we must stress our open-mindedness and willingness to learn and if you can cite some examples of this in tackling something new, like what you do in school, then that would be a plus.
I'd advise that you grab yourself a book on job applications and how to answer interview questions so that you'll be much more prepared on your next interview. There are also a lot of websites offering advise on how to answer interview questions in the internet.

Fergal, thank you for your response. I will make a point of checking out the Directory.
I am located in the US. I am primarily looking for a part time position in more a support role for recruiting. One area I would like to get into is Internet research for candidate sourcing.

This is what a head hunter was charging for finding and recruiting candidates into very senior positions. It is different to recruitment consultants who work with a broad range of candidates for less senior positions.

The fact that more and more reputed firms are turning to recruitment agencies to hire, has raised their commissions sky high. In India, some agencies charge as much as 50% of the first salary!

That is very high Jigyasa, is it so difficult to get good people in India that companies will pay 50% commissions to recruitment consultants?

I think that the statement that the staff is the key to the success of the company is the right one. There are a lot of head hunting agencies on the market and not all of them have enough level of proficiency. It is the additional problem.

Having great people gives a business a distinct competitive advantage. Thus it is getting more and more expensive to find and recruit good candidates.
It's also vitally important to provide good systems for employees to work with and to motivate these employees effectively. Nothing is gained from employing the best, if they are not used effectively, productively and profitably.
