This Mind Reader Site (http://www.readthemind.com/) was recently sold on DP for the princely sum of $10. A great buy in my opinion.
The site is very nicely designed and works on a very clever trick. Do you think a simple site like this has the potential to become highly promoted through viral marketing and word of mouth, and eventually go on to earn good revenue?

I've seen this site before... probably from an email that I got from a friend. I've also already figured how the trick works so it doesn't appeal to me anymore but for people who just saw it first, they are likely to spread the word around either by word of mouth or through emails and blogs. If I'm not mistaken, I would also have forwarded that email I got to the people in my contact list.

Thanks for your reply Nazreen, you give an excellent example of the power of viral marketing in action - your friend emailed you, you visited the site and passed the message on to others.

I think this site could become popular if given the right advertisement oportunities. Ad onto a teenage type of site and it will be very big.

I think he sold it because this site doesn't have much to offer. Once visitors have already found out about the trick, the site loses it's appeal and visitors don't come back to visit the site anymore.
Here's the secret to the trick. Highlight only if you want to know so that I don't spoil the fun for many people.
It says there to choose one number, add the two digits together and subract the sum from the number you chose.
If you chose 23: 2+3 = 5. 23 minus 5 = 18
Don't click the crystal ball yet at this point but choose two other numbers instead.
If you chose 99: 9+9 = 18. 99 minus 18 = 81
If you chose 69: 6+9 = 15. 69 minus 15 = 54
If you see the symbols for 18, 81 and 54, they're all the same. For me, the symbol was a Square so when I clicked the crystal ball it showed a Square.

Who cares if it's a trick. He made the site and sold it. That was his objecive. Sure people will find out how the trick is done, but he was out to flip a site and he did it. Bravo.

May he was not able to manage the site. Whatever may be the reason but it surely was a good buy...

For $10, it isn't a bad deal at all! Add a few more "magic tricks" to this one and publicize it amply and you'll have a popular domain at your disposal :)

I think it's got potential if some more tricks were added like jigysa suggested. I've always been a sucker for the silly puzzles like that and lateral thinking type things and would bet I'm not the only one.
The buyer would probably make a good profit selling the domain name alone to someone like an illusionist, magician or anyone interested in proving or disproving that mind reading exists.

The new owner has added quite a few Adsense ads. These ads are well placed on the site and they are showing ads that are very relevant to the site's content. It shouldn't take him / her long to make back the initial $10 investment from the Adsense revenue.
It's not often that you see sites that nice selling for $10. But obviously there are bargains in the market.
